Now feels like the right time to be shouting her out because today she was not only announced as a finalist in the Beaker Street photography competition, she was also commended the Judges Choice Award for her image, Trust Fall.

Huge congratulations to Amber, and to my other mates and finalists who will be exhibiting their work at Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery (TMAG) from August 5th.

A big old thank you to Darren Wright and the good bastards at Hobart & Beyond | Tasmania for the early access and sneaky privileges we are granted for the opening day of Dark M**o photo walk.

So much to do, so much to see (so what’s wrong with taking the backstreets), it never fails to surprise and delight.

They even ordered a fkn boat in from Scotland and you can go on it and see some weird s**t. It’s got that “new boat smell” to it which is strange because it’s now two years old and hasn’t been operational yet because the local Gummint were super clever about it. What’ll they think of next aye.

Pictured is Boris Acket’s Soundspace located at Dark Park - this one will be a huge hit with adults as well as kids.

Heavily biased opinion, but this beach and the couple surrounding it are the best beaches in the world.

I know because I’ve been lucky enough to grow up there (how much growing is a debatable topic).

In all my years hanging out with family and friends at Safety Cove I’ve never witnessed a scene like this, and to be fair I’ve never witnessed a scene like this anywhere. Which makes it all the more speshal ✨

So having it shortlisted in the Beaker Street Photography Competition is a pretty cool thing to see. But that doesn’t mean I’m a finalist - I’m gonna need your help for that 😉

I was forced* to write a 150 word caption to accompany the photo explaining the scientific process behind the image.
…so the obligatory di****ad caption is still retained.

I’ve entered this competition a few times and each time it has been great to see which other mates have entered their images too. The shortlist is bloody stacked so please have a quick scroll and chuck a vote on all the images that stand out to you.

We’ll chase neon reflections in puddles, frame ghostly silhouettes in red light, and hunt for the raw, unscripted moments that only reveal themselves under cover of darkness.

\We’ll explore long exposures, low light techniques, and visual storytelling in one of the most atmospheric settings Tasmania has to offer.
