JR N700S Series Shinkansen set J31 approaches Kyoto Station on Nozomi 250(?) towards Tokyo from Shin-Osaka running on the JR Central Tokaido Shinkansen line.

The Shinkansen network is the envy of the world, stretching far and wide all across Japan. I caught it a few times travelling between Tokyo, Kyoto and Hiroshima and it was a great experience. High Speed Rail is something that would definitely prove beneficial in Australia, and plans are underway for a Newcastle to Sydney line. If that ever gets built who knows..

Whilst running a botched schedule, serving much disappointment to enthusiasts at Heatherdale earlier, SSRs P14 and P16 run push pull with MTM IEV102 make their way through Ringwood East on an inspection run from Lilydale to Ringwood.

IEV102 isn’t seen as much anymore on inspection runs, supplements for new inspection vehicle EV120. On this occasion, it was running out of Bayswater every night on a “Teksol” overhead inspection run, covering most of the suburban network over several nights.

K79 and co power through Erskineville station on an empty cars run from East Hills to Macdonaldtown stabling yards via Central.

The K sets are being withdrawn from service very soon, being replaced with displaced Oscar H Sets from the intercity network after widespread introduction of the NIF “Mariyung” trains, which replaced the V sets. Quite the replacement cycle!

The newly repainted “Candy” XPT, painted in the XPT’s original livery from the 1980s made its first trip to Victoria yesterday, rostered to run what ended up being a very late ST21/ST24 trip from Sydney to Melbourne and back.
Pictured here is the set, consisting of XP2009 and XP2006 curving along the NE mainline between Wandong and Kilmore East on ST24 from Melbourne to Sydney.
The train came past at about 1:15pm, making it ~3 hours late. It didn’t reach Sydney until after Midnight!
It’s a spectacular livery and looked even better in person.

The ECOM (Evie-Comeng) evaluation train spotted climbing Cave Hill both ways, on an inspection run of the Lilydale line.
Note the planned burn-offs happening in the 1st frame on Mt Dandenong, as well as the early development of the “Kinley” housing estate. In the 2nd & 3rd frame, note the disused Cave Hill limestone quarry, and an incredible view of the suburb of Lilydale.
I’ve wanted to get a shot of a Comeng on this section of line for quite a while now, so I got incredibly lucky to capture these photos with only little notice beforehand!
