Treasured Collections Photo Organising

Hello Monday my old friend!
Work this week provides me with some stability and predictability while I'm surrounded by kitchen renovation.

We're about a quarter of the way through the project and we'll be very pleased when it's finished. Our whole house will feel bigger when we get to put the lounge room and dining room back together too!

For now though my office is my sanctuary!

No scanning while the messy building stuff is going on but I am enjoying a Digital Organising Project.

The treasured have been
collected from all their hiding spots...
duplicates deleted...
photos organised by date.

Now I'm working through each year to add
facial recognition of immeadiate family members
general keywords
then renaming files and folders

To most people this sounds equally tedious and overwhelming.

To me it sounds like fun! (plus I have some cool tech that makes it as simple and fast as possilbe!)

Yes I'm a photo nerd.. a professional, certified photo nerd!

On Friday I get to meet a new client which is always fun.

And this weekend (when it is MAY!!!) I'm working on my own family's photo collection!

Hello Monday!
Two short weeks coming up...or an extra long weekend?

Which camp are you?

This short work week will be filled with organising the digitial collection I downloaded and deduplicated last week.

Lots of facial recognition, adding keywords, renaming photos and folders.

There is usually a bit of photo detective work... finding correct homes for photos.

And I will continue to delete...

dulicates that slipped through the dedupe software
multiples - similar photos that we don't need heaps of
screenshots - those carpark shots, prices at the supermarket and ads for things we don't need and never buy!

Some of it is a bit mind numbing,(cue podcasts - currenlty Christian Hull 16 day World Cruise - its a hoot!) but the good bits... I often get to see amazing places around the world and Australia through my clients photos!

I also have the privilage of watching children grow up on my screen in a matter of a few days - so fun!!

Then an extra long weekend... filled with house reno prep, a bit of fence painting, work on my own family photo collection, celebrating my late Mum's birthday with a cup of tea and our annual Easter Egg Hunt with our big and little bubbas!

I might need the short work week to follow to recover!

Hello Monday!
Ok, so it's already mid March and I feel like I'm only just getting really productive for the year!

I've been working since mid January... but I haven't felt like I was really getting much acheived!

Anyone else taken ages to get into 2024?

I'm back into a weekly routine...
My internet (FINALLY!) is reliable and giving me enough oomph to do my magic with photos...
And I'm back into the swing of getting into my socials.

Two things I'mlooking forward to this week...

Getting into the guts of a Digital Organising Project for a lovely client - so many treasuresjust waiting to be collected, organised by date. Then tagged with people and keywords to make them easy to fina and use!

Monthly online catch up with other Photo Managers around Australia. Lots of chat about latest ideas, tools, techniques and technology, some problem solving (usually with the tech!) sometimes we have guests to share their knowledge. One meeting I lookforard to every month. We're a small industry so having a group of like minded collegues to chat with is invaluable!

Look out later in the week.... I'll share a bit about my own photo collection!💖

Hello Monday!

A fun week ahead starting on an Digital Organising project!

I have collected alllllll of my client's digital photos...

A huge amount of dvds
A couple of External Hard Drives (EHDs)
Some USB's
and an Apple Photo Library

All collected onto a new EHD ready for me to do some magic!!

By the end of the project my lovely client will have
their collection all in one place...
organised by date...
deduplicated...
immediate family tagged with facial recognition.

An organised, easy to search collection, ready to save to a super useful cloud service so they can share and use their treasures!!!

Absolutely my 'Why' for my business!

I also get to have a fun online meeting with my Photo Organising colleagues tomorrow and helping out a new colleague on Wednesday.

Lots more people time than usual for me... which will balance out the screen time!

And add into the mix... a bit of time on Sunday with my husband making some choices about what he wants scanned from his old school photography course days as a late teenager! Let's see how successful that is!

Fingers crossed I still have a voice towards the end of the week after watching the in the semi final.

Tip of the Day!

Do you find yourself getting overwhelmed, distracted, letting the procrastination monster interrupt opportunities to work on your photo project? Then upset you haven't moved further with your project?

Might be time to find yourself a buddy!

Someone who will help keep you on track with your project.

They could check in with your progress...
Talk you through overwhelm or frustration...
Maybe just listen to you vent when the technology is running you in circles (happens to the best of us!!)

Could be your best friend, walking partner or work colleague who is happy to support you to get your photo project completed.

Better yet, someone who also has something they need to work on... doesn't have to be photos... could be a home organising project... studying... a home improvement project... something they'd appreciate support with, someone to vent to or talk through challenges... and most importantly celebrate the wins!!

Schedule regular checkins about your project, your progress, what you plan to do before the next checkin... we all work better with a deadline and a bit of accountability right!

Make sure to choose someone who is super supportive and a good listener... sometimes you'll just want to vent!

When Monday gets away from you... Hello Tuesday!!

A fun busy week ahead...
- delivering a scanning project to a client - the warm fuzzies of my job!
- chatting with a new Photo Organiser about photobooks
- and scanning some old negatives, can't wait for them to come to life again!
- and a session with an ongoing client to finish identifying people, places and keywords in her scanned and digital collection

Also a few walks with my daughter before she starts back at Uni, and some self care after all that scanning with massage!

My work week varies so much as a Photo Organiser!

Tip of the day!

Your photos should live where you do!!

Not in a garage...
Not in a shed...
Not in a basement...
Not in a cellar...
Not in an attic / roof space...
Not in humid rooms...
Not in damp rooms...

Your precious treasures need a home
- away from threat of water and moisture
- away from huge temperature fluctuations
- away from pest infestations

They need to live like Goldilocks... not too hot, not too cold... juuuuuust right!

Most at risk of deterioration are slides, negatives and videos.

A lounge room cabinet, or bedroom wardrobe would work, these spaces are usually well ventilated, heated, cooled and free of photo eating bugs!

There are a good number of safe storage solutions available in different budgets and styles.

If your collection is too big or messy to fit in those spaces, it might be just the push you need to get started on organising your collection... if you need help you know where I am!😆

Hello Monday!

You sure came around quick!!!

On the docket this week is LOTS of admin! 👩‍💻

Which is handy as I'm working on some digital collections for clients this week and I have LOTS of downtime waiting for my deduplication and facial recognition programs to do their magic before I can move onto the next stage.

I also get to chat to other Photo Managers in our monthly The Photos Managers Australasia catch up... networking and problem solving all around Australia!

A busy, but pretty boring desk week... just what I need after a several weeks of travel, celebrations, packing, unpacking and socialising! 😬

Just me and my tea this week... bliss! ☕🫖

On the docket this week!

Whooo.... back to my desk and back to reality!

I've had an amazing 2 weeks... a few days with my husband to attend the most beautiful wedding then time in Perth to support a family member... and meet a lovely new client! TCPO is now bi-coastal!

But today it's back to my cosy desk to get back into client work and up to date with business admin.

And finally get into my end of financial year jobs... can't put them off any longer. Safe to say it's not my favourite part of small business, but I'm super pleased I do have to do it because it means I've helped a bunch of clients this financial year! Yay!

I'll tag team this with something I really love to do... scanning clients treasures!!

I do get to do some exciting things to celebrate my BFF's festival of turning 50 this week... watch this space for something exciting she and I are doing Wednesday!!!

Tip of the day!

Is your cloud actually clouding?

We are at a point where most people have some sort of cloud service to store their photos and documents.

Perhaps a 'free' service or one you pay a monthly or yearly fee to keep your most important items safe.

But...

Is it actually doing it's job?

I come across many clients (and friends!😄) who's cloud photo storage isn't actually working and therefore putting the security of their treasures at risk!

The top two reasons are quick and easy to check and fix.

1 Incorrect settings - setting on your phone, computer, ipad or other devices aren't accurate for the job they need to do.

Make sure your cloud storage is linked, with correct setting to automatically upload your collection... especially when transferring to a new device or updating operating systems.

2 Out of date payment details - new, updated or replaced card details, changes to bank accounts, charges going to accounts you don't use anymore... very common examples of cloud accounts that stop uploading your treasures and often resulting in lost photos!

Imagine you lose your phone through damage or theft... it's all good, my photos are backed up to the cloud... until you realise the yearly bill didn't get paid 6 months ago due to a change in bank details... and those photos are gone!

Heart breaking.

So do one thing for your collection today... check your cloud service is really doing it's job.

Check settings!

Check payment details!

Check photos are uploaded and up to date!

(Bonus tip... pop a note in your calendar to check these regularly!!)
