Gateways

There’s something to be said for the healing power of photography, at least for me anyways. Using film has always generated more uncertainty for me than digital, and perhaps more apprehension over quality. Both these concerns are needless I imagine.

A shot like this, taken over 5 years ago using a , left to linger for years in the fridge before developing a few weeks ago, soothes my concerns. It was dim, grey and rainy, and with the famous limitations of the all-plastic point-and-shoot, never going to produce more than this grainy, atmospheric image. Yet, it is distinct enough to identify, and casting enough ambiguity to be abstract.

By design and yet not so. This is why I love film.

Dove

This feels like something out of a found footage, as though an anonymous and unspecified entry in a traveler’s photographic journal. Keen eyed Tasmanian’s will know the falls’ identity. But I savour the ambiguity of the moment, letting the cascade stand in its own merit.

Snowy Borders

A forgotten about film gets developed leading to an eclectic mix of shots taken over the course of time. This photo, taken across the frozen Lake Titisee in the Black Forest, was shot way back in 2016/17. The more recent photos on the film date back three years, with shots in Tasmania. I love forgotten film, as it reveals nuggets of life half-forgotten about.

Simple and diverting, clouds remind me of the weather I enjoy the most.

Clouds make simple yet diverting fodder for photos. Pictures like this remind me of my favourite type of weather; wind, rain, with a hint of stormy and a whole sense of energy.
