Images By Eva I've set-up this page to share my passion for photography with others.

I feel so lucky to live in the Southwest region of WA where we are spoilt for dark starry nights and stunning landscapes.

Here is another image I processed of the lunar eclipse last week. This was taken in the time period not long before totality ended, hence you can see the right hand side of the moon starting to brighten up.

I gave myself a little project with last nights lunar eclipse to try a stacked image (hundreds of single frames) to reduce noise and increase details/sharpness of the lunar features. I used my telescope and DSLR camera. Had a fair bit of trail and error with some free stacking software. But got there in the end and overall generally pleased with the result. I never get bored of looking at a lunar eclipse. Very ethereal feeling.

It was nice to get back into some photography recently. It's been a big few years studying and now that I have finished my course I look forward to more free time to get out there and take photos and experiment. I had a lovely evening at Canal Rocks recently (minus the mozzies!)

It was nice to reflect while observing the lunar eclipse last night. I didn't have the time or energy to get the telescope out but I did capture a quick snap with just my normal camera and canon telephoto lens on a tripod.I never get tired seeing the lunar eclipse. Just one of those beautiful things nature has to offer.

Managed to capture the aurora over Gracetown last night. I've always wanted to try this location for aurora/astro but wondered what it would be like . A bit tricky to balance the exposure of the bright background lights with the darker foreground in one image but enjoyed the challenge. A bit of moonlight and the fact these were taken as soon as it was dark enough to pick up the aurora all helped the cause. Looking forward to capturing more astro landscape images at other iconic southwest locations soon.

Throwback to October last year when I made a dash to Redgate Beach at 2 am and watched the Aurora until dawn. I finally got around to processing this image. It took a while to edit as I made a few classic mistakes in the field (as one does occasionally) which I had to fix in post. This image was taken just as dawn was breaking and the Aurora activity had picked up dramatically (numbers got to a similar level that were reached in the May event last year). It was really incredible to still be able to see the aurora glow as it started to lighten up. Note the southern cross on the left of the image too.

Been busy comet photography hunting on the long weekend. That comet that I photographed a couple of weeks ago has ended up putting on a show for us and it is still visible to the naked eye. To see it look slightly south of due west close to the horizon from around 8:30pm to 9:30pm. The comet is moving away from us now, so will get fainter each evening. Note, the detail of the comet has been brought out in the image below through long exposure and post processing/editing. It will look like a faint fuzzy streak in the night sky, but still impressive. A few tips are let you eyes adjust to the dark, use binoculars if you have some and find a location away from light pollution. Interesting read about it here... https://skyandtelescope.org/astronomy-news/comet-atlas-caught-in-the-act-of-disintegration/

Managed to capture comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) not long after sunset this evening at Gracetown. It was a very short window of time to capture (approx 15-20 mins) where it got dark enough before the comet set over the horizon. Looked very cool through some binoculars too! It was a good challenge... mission accomplished. Minus the many mosquitoes it was a pleasant evening. It was not visible to the naked eye but could spot it easily with my binoculars. A short timelapse capturing the Aurora Australis last night. The series of images (approx. 500 in total) was taken between 10pm and midnight on 1 Jan 2025. Activity was strong enough to enable the aurora to be visible to the naked eye (note however long exposures with the camera picks up much more detail and colour in the aurora than what the naked eye can see). Special way to spend the first evening of 2025 and really appreciative I can see this in my own backyard on the farm.

Went to Eagle Bay last night to capture stairway to the moon over the water and was fortunate enough to capture an inferior mirage of the moonrise. This phenomenon occurs due to a warm layer of air over the ocean.

It's been a while since I photographed a comet using longer focal lengths. This is Comet C/2023 ATLAS (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) taken using 100mm focal length lens a few weeks ago. It required taking multiple images on a tripod that was tracking the stars and then a lot of post editing (in short.. alot of effort). Pleased with the final result. Can see a bit if the ant-tail there.
