Most people walk past this without a second look. It's just a spider in a web.

But get close enough and you find a Hu**ed Silver Orb Weaver (Leucauge dromedaria) hanging upside down in a near-horizontal web, legs translucent green, abdomen catching the light like a drop of mercury. A backyard in Bonogin, Gold Coast, doing what nature does quietly and without asking for attention.

That's what macro photography does: it slows things down long enough to notice what's actually there.

Some subjects find you. You just have to be quiet enough to notice.

This swamp wallaby wasn't posing. It was just living, tucked between the roots, watching back. The forest framed it better than I ever could.
