Northwestern Sicily in the summer of 2025 🤍
Our last trip before coming to Australia... The days were spent under a burning hot sun - running, swimming, driving. And the evenings... the warm gentle sicilian summer evenings where the air stays still.

Byron Bay - blue & breezy. I felt like I was on vacation. This has been my favourite place so far...

This is from one of our Sunday adventures. Sometimes it seems like we live for Sundays - they're the days of freedom, adventure, trail running, exploring... But there's so much life also happening in between - mini adventures in between our big Sunday adventures. 🌊

- breath of the ocean -
One of the most magical moments so far. Standing on the beach after a swim, wrapped in a towel - and a hug, looking at the sea coming and going. The sun was going down creating this beautiful tender light. The mist was coming from the ocean - everything was in a haze.
There was a dad playing with his two daughters next to us. So joyful and free. Their dog happily chasing them and then the waves. Everyone around us seemed lighter somehow.
One of the moments that I'll want to return to in my memories. Tender, light, safe, and loved.

🌙 BODY LOVE
As the new year was beginning I started to see loads of posts about dieting, challenges and "new year, new me"...
There's nothing wrong with wanting a change. I admit - I want a change myself. At the same time - we must love ourselves, always.

My body has done so much for me - my health goes up and down but my body still carries me. I run, I lift, I dance. Yet, I don't feel comfortable in this body - I do want it to look different.

While working on that change, I'm going to work even harder on loving and appreciating my body. I don't want to shame it or hate it just because of extra rolls. I'm strong... and wobbly. Maybe one day I'll be more strong than wobbly but for now - every time a bad thought comes to my mind about this body, I'll lovingly squeeze my soft belly and think of all the hard things this body has been through and just say thank you.

Let's move for the love of movement, let's eat for the desire to nurture. Let's not punish, let's love instead. Love as hard as we can.

One very rainy day hiking and running in the Springbrook National Park. The weather was incredible - heavy rain and loads of fog after. We were covered in leeches, running on the muddy trails.
Wouldn't change this adventure at all, maybe would just add some better rain gear.

Mount Etna - a year ago
That day started out chaotic. I had forgotten to buy snow chains for my car and rushed to the shop before heading towards Catania, 1.5 hours away. Upon arrival I realised I had also forgotten my jacket and hat. At least I didn't forget my backpack like the last time I came to Etna.

We started the climb past midday. It was 3 hours uphill to our destination. We were climbing through snow, which was sometimes up to our knees. I had to take a break every 15 minutes and catch my breath. He had never been in snow so he kept sliding and tumbling. And the whole way up we talked just pausing the conversation to breathe.

At our destination he brought out two sandwiches. It was a welcome surprise since in addition to everything else I had also forgotten to pack lunch or snacks.

We came back down at twilight. We saw the sunset! It was one of the most magical moments of my life - sunset on snowy Etna, completely by ourselves.

We sledded down the mountain on our bums, screaming with laughter. He had never done that either. And I felt like a kid again.

This is one of these memories that's so precious and beautiful... It makes me smile every time I think of it.

one of my very favourite self portraits I've ever done. From the series Mitote - a series of photographs depicting my mental health journey - see more: salozen.com

But now I'm posting this because I miss taking self-portraits so so so much. I'm itching to create - my brain is buzzing. I'm longing for a few hours in solitude, just me and my camera. One of these days...
