On the 31st of July, with countless tears running down my face, I picked up my camera and captured a day that should never have needed to be captured.
A day that should never have needed to be organised.
But unfortunately, the world we live in can be incredibly cruel, and the poor choices made by one person have turned the lives of so many upside down.
I had the privilege of attending Beaudesert Soccer Club to photograph the Celebration of Life for beautiful Ari Brae Currie.
Forever Loved. Forever remembered. Forever 6. 🤍
Photographing a Celebration of Life is, without a doubt, one of the hardest things I do behind my camera.
You see the rawest emotions.
You feel the heartbreak.
You witness the moments that words simply cannot describe.
And while trying to hold back my own tears, my biggest priority was making sure I captured enough memories for Ari’s family to hold onto forever — the little moments, the big moments, the smiles, the love, and everything that made Ari, Ari.
With the love and approval of Ari’s family, I have shared a small selection of photographs from the day.
I have intentionally kept these to the lighter moments — the smiles, the beautiful Munanjali Dancers, the incredible Eagles, and the fun, colourful moments that reflected the things Ari loved most.
Ari’s family have received the link to the complete gallery, containing almost 2,000 photographs from the day. With the utmost respect for their privacy and grief, I will leave it entirely up to them to share the full gallery, should they ever feel ready or want to.
It was an absolute honour to be trusted with something so incredibly precious.
