You can tell I’ve been busy down in The Coorong region of South Australia today. I took quite a few photos that I’ll be processing over the coming days. I have absolutely no idea what these little birds are and they were little and seemed to spook at a gust of wind. All I know is they are a kind of wading bird. Hopefully someone can help me id them and I’ll update the post when I know. If you know feel free to post a comment and receive my many thanks as a reward.

Update: I’ve been reliably informed that these little birds are Red-necked Stints.

Another image from today. I’m not sure but I think this one might be a Petrel of some kind. Again I found it in The Coorong today. Unfortunately it came up from behind me and I only noticed in time to get a view from the rear and it never came back for a second attempt. If anyone recognises the exact species please drop a comment and let me know. Much appreciated. I’ll update the post when I find out what my feathered friend is.

Update: I think this one was wishful thinking. It’s actually a juvenile Pacific Gull.

Every good Tern deserves to be photographed. I found this cute Tern down in The Coorong in South Australia today. I’m not sure which variety it is, so if you know pop a line in the comments and receive my many thanks. If I get confirmation on the exact species I’ll update the post.

Update: This good Tern is a juvenile Great Crested Tern.

Earlier this year I went on my first trip into the Capertee Valley region of NSW in search of birds to photograph. This Jacky Winter landed on the tip of the tallest dead branch of the tree and alerted us to its presence with a pretty song.

Occasionally I do photograph things that aren't birds just like this tadpole here that was trying to make its way across a causeway from one side of Mambray Creek to the other in Mt Remarkable National Park in South Australia.

Finally going through my images from last winter's foray into the Capertee Valley in New South Wales. I think this little bird is a Thornbill but which one I'm not sure. I'll update after I get the id confirmed.

It's been a while since I last posted. Life has a habit of getting in the way. I've finally gotten to processing of the photos from a trip back in June. I found this little one in Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park in Victoria. It's a lovely spot for birds. I'm not sure but I think this one might be a female Golden Whistler. If you can confirm or correct me it will be much appreciated.

Update: Confirmed as a female Golden Whistler.

Found my very first Antechinus in Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park in Victoria. Pity the light wasn’t better as the ISO was higher than I normally like to use but it was my first Antechinus so I wasn’t going to not take the shot.

‘I’m telling you guys. The one I caught was this big. It truly was’.

The pose of the middle pelican amused me and reminded me of fisherman describing the fish that got away to his mates.

The Great Egret took off from its perch on the edge of the lake and flew a short distance away. As it neared its landing site it lifted its head and neck up to slow up. For some reason this pose amuses me. Does it have the same effect on you?
