Work portraits don’t need to be all stiff and posed. Natural light, outdoors, a bit of goofing around with your colleagues and these most natural images don’t even feel like head shots any more.

Images from that time when they are little don’t have to be picture perfect. Often it’s the squishes, the hanging onto mum for dear life moments, which are the most precious looking back. Both still fitting on mama’s lap…. Before outgrowing a lap, or no longer wanting a hand held on the way to school. Let me capture some of that time for you. Link in bio.

When we are open to what is in front of us, there is so much beauty everywhere.

Sometimes it comes naturally and I notice and delight in all the things. Other times it is a practice to keep being open to whatever unfolds.

Body of water.

Always a time of unfolding. Of learning / re-learning (not just for the four legged family members trying to find out where they now fit in). Of discovery. Of surrender and embracing. Of love.

I get welcomed into a home. A home in which a monumental shift has happened, the arrival of a new little human. Every family is different, naturally. But this is one thing they all share: the newness, the adjusting, the getting to know their new little person.

It is a tender time, those first weeks, even months, post birth. Finding one’s way in a new role, or rediscovering an exiting role. It’s an unfolding, a discovery, and often it also means surrender. Adjusting to new demands, changes in sleep and expectations, learning anew, and keeping this little being alive.

Being invited into that wild and wonderful time, to witness and document, is something that I never take for granted or take lightly. I am often deeply moved by what I see. The love, the tenderness, sometimes rawness, the tired, the laughter, the devotion, the discovering.

Here is to all the families who have trusted me into their lives, even if just for a few hours. Thank you 🤍

I often take photos in the morning when I let the chickens out. Water droplets always make me stop. Because….water!! Keeping shape perfectly.

These look like little pearls strung up, or little glass beads, or floating tears. Many different little webs and their patterns, sometimes tiny little droplets, other times heavy with water.

Beautiful in their imperfect perfection.

Hugs….

My heart opens when I see hugs. Not just my own kids (although in fairness it’s nice to know see that it’s not all “feisty exchanges” but there are also these moments!) … any (little) humans just spontaneously hugging.

So many things to say in a hug.
Hey, you’re awesome, come here!
I got you.
I love you.
I’m sorry.
Hold me.
It’s been ages!
Congratulations!
Hello.
Goodbye.
I’m so happy to see you.
The list could keep going …

I have photographed a lot of hugs. Gently wrapped arms around a new baby sibling, tender hugs between couples, big family squishes, pets being squeezed (I’m sure a dog has silently pleaded “help me”! to me), grandparent hugs… Hugs are the best.

May you have plenty of hugs in your life!

One of the beautiful parts of this work is to accompany a family through change. From pregnancy to first baby. Or from little family to expansion. From bump to baby. Or from family of four to a wedding (the cutest!).

Because I was allowed into their life, to get a little peak, to witness something meaningful: change, a new chapter, a beginning or a celebration of love or life, there remains a connection to these couples / families.

Sometimes I see their stories come up on Instagram: that newborn baby all cubby and sparkly big eyed now; that mama pregnant again; family life continuing all the time… and my heart opens. I love seeing snippets of their life, having been there for a moment in time myself with them. It’s a beautiful thing.
