The series title, Second Nature, evolved from thinking about how artificial versions of nature have become so common in everyday life. The work directly explores this idea of creating a second, synthetic version of nature through imitation flowers and constructed scenes. But the title is also a play on the phrase 'second nature'; something that becomes so familiar it feels completely natural to us.

The tension between the two meanings sits directly at the centre of the series. Objects that once felt obviously fake or strange are slowly becoming part of our everyday visual world.

This sub-series, 'Paired Study' reflects this directly, pairing two stems of the same flower side by side. One real, one synthetic and asking viewers to look a little closer.

Some pictures I made of some (but not all!) of the incredible women that make up Filmblood. Every year the relationships grow deeper, the laughs get louder and the photographic concepts get wilder. I most definitely could not have anticipated 2 years ago just how nourishing this annual weekend away would be for my creative soul.

With thanks, always 🤍

These small constructed worlds were the starting point for the entire series of Second Nature.

What began as a curiosity around artificial flowers and our willingness to accept imitation in place of the real, slowly expanded into these miniature constructed environments. Built from a mix of real and synthetic materials, the works explore beauty, artifice, and the increasingly blurred boundary between the natural and the manufactured.

At first glance the scenes feel lush and believable, but the closer you look, the stranger they become.

Look, I’m “On the Couch”!

(Which is legitimately where you’ll find me when not mid-project!)

Answered a few questions for Australian Arts Review about photography, process, and some of the ideas behind the work. A quiet little appreciated feature.

A few glimpses from the process behind Second Nature.

Real and artificial botanicals, specimens and small constructed scenes coming together.

Second Nature is a body of work I’ve been developing over the past twelve months - exploring the strange space where the natural and the artificial begin to blur.

More soon 🌿

The work will be exhibited this May as part of the SouthSide Festival at Frankston Arts Centre.

Hi neighbours,

I am a local portrait photographer of 8 years, based in Seaford, and have some availability over the next couple of weeks so I am looking to proactively utilise my home studio garage space!

Have you been thinking about updating your headshot for your business, personal page or website?

A professional headshot session with me is simple: relaxed, no fuss, and zero stress.

Wondering why you should get a professional headshot rather than snap a selfie and run it through an AI digital surgeon (with one tweak too far, and you're barely recognisable)?

• AI can smooth and tweak, but it can not capture real personality and genuine expression
• Professional lighting makes a huge difference to the overall polished look of a headshot
• AI can distort your features while I ensure you look like you, just a polished and confident version.
• Stand out in a world of AI-generated sameness. A professional headshot adds credibility and finesse that people notice.

Very reasonably priced, I can be flexible with time, able to book working hours as well as after hours if needed.
