The series title, Second Nature, evolved from thinking about how artificial versions of nature have become so common in everyday life. The work directly explores this idea of creating a second, synthetic version of nature through imitation flowers and constructed scenes. But the title is also a play on the phrase 'second nature'; something that becomes so familiar it feels completely natural to us.
The tension between the two meanings sits directly at the centre of the series. Objects that once felt obviously fake or strange are slowly becoming part of our everyday visual world.
This sub-series, 'Paired Study' reflects this directly, pairing two stems of the same flower side by side. One real, one synthetic and asking viewers to look a little closer.
