It was a beautiful Easter Sunday at Canberra's Arboretum when I met the Gebremariam family to capture their special event of being together for Easter. It was a great family photo session with lots of laughs and cute smiles.

Spring is a beautiful time in Canberra. It is just perfect for family portraits with its gorgeous landscapes and backgrounds. It is my favourite time because the weather is improving, the city is full of colour and people are happier. It is why I love taking family photographs in Canberra.

Golden hour occurs twice over the course of the day – sunrise and sunset. Most of my photoshoots take place in the afternoon to take advantage of sunset. However, I have been getting some interest in holding photo shoots early in the morning to take advantage of the early morning light.

Given the growing interest in early morning photographs, I thought I would outline the pros and cons of sunrise v sunset to help families decide the best time for themselves before they arrange their family photography session.
