On a shoot in Kalbarri a long time ago, yes please go ahead and make fun of the bum bag to your heart’s content. 😂

The shoot was for a Japanese ‘energy’ drink called Regain which contained a high dose of caffeine and guarana, this is long before Red Bull.

Part of the shoot was by the river in the gorge & the grip, who can remain nameless but whose surname may’ve been Akkerman, dropped the camera 🎥 an Arri III while clambering on the rocks. There was a lot of discussion about the repercussions of this & how we’d know whether the 35mm film camera was still functioning properly without seeing the footage & whether someone needed to make the 14hr round trip to Perth to get another camera.

The camera assistant who’s in the picture with me suggested that we shoot a test, he’d brought a developing tank with him & chemicals to process it, so we were able to continue shooting!

A sequence from a film I made called Sticks and Stones in 2024 with Kayu Vianna riding a wooden 7’2” surfboard designed by legendary shaper Maurice Cole and manufactured using balsa wood grown on a plantation in Indonesia in the howling wind and rain at Jeffreys Bay in Sth Africa!

Music by the absurdly-talented Murray Paterson & Headland.

Some frame grabs from the Treaty Celebration at the Aboriginal Advancement League. Was amazing to witness such an important moment in history.

The sense of community and cultural spirit was powerful and uplifting.

The last shoot for the year at in Prahran on Friday was an enjoyable one. Revs was received a grant from in acknowledgment of their role as an iconic Melbourne cultural institution + their support of emerging as well as established artists.

Especially enjoyed meeting both staff & DJ’s including & Sunny & who are part of furniture at Revolver & hearing their stories about the part it’s played in their lives.

Thanks to all the people & organisations I’ve worked with this year, look forward to 2026!

Some frames and bts from a shoot I did with Amyl and The Sniffers at Sound Park Studio a while back for APRA AMCOS during which Declan, Fergus, Amy and Bryce talked about their collaborative songwriting process. were talking about their song writing process. They were just starting out at that point & it was great to see them scoop up a bunch of gongs last night at the APRA including Best Song for U Should Not Be Doing That and Best Album for Cartoon Darkness.

I remember after the interview Amy asked me if she could give me a hand to lug lights and camera gear back to the car, I declined but it left me thinking what a kind gesture it was to ask. Her boundless positive energy and irrepressible joy comes across in their music and live performances and is a big part of the band's appeal, perhaps she really is guided by an

Saw a fantastic & important film at IMax last night called Yurlu Country about the lasting effects of the Wittenoom asbestos mine in WA not just on workers at the mine but on the country of the Banjima community.

I’ve never seen the Pilbara captured so beautifully, incredible work by the cinematographer from both ground and in the air. Had a really interesting chat with him afterwards.

Been following the Wittenoom story for a long time & havent forgotten how CSR’s lawyers, who included Julie Bishop, delayed court cases involving workers affected by mesothelioma in many cases until after they’d died to avoid having to pay them compensation.

Recall reading the story of one Wittenoom worker, Rino Pedrotti, who passed away from mesothelioma before his court case was settled & while his family were burying him at Karakatta all the evidence for his case was stolen from his home.

Hopefully this film focusses attention on Wittenoom & puts pressure on Roger Cook & the WA government to accept Slater Gordon’s plan to remediate the land which has been poisoned by CSR.

I spent 5 days recently on Magnetic Island at a camp organised by UsherKids Australia for kids aged 11-17 from Australia, NZ, the UK and USA who suffer from Usher Sydrome.
It was fantastic to see the connections that were created between the kids and for them to feel part of a community of their peers.
Usher Syndrome is a genetic condition that causes hearing loss and a progressive form of vision loss known as retinitis pigmentosa (RP). It is the most common genetic cause of combined hearing and vision loss, and can also affect balance.
UsherKids Australia does incredible work offering support, connection and community to kids who have this condition and their families. It supports more than 100 families in Australia and helps create brighter futures for them and their kids.
Usherkids CEO Emily Shepard and the rest of her team put an incredible amount of work into into making this camp a success, it was a wonderful experience to be part of it! Having mentors who are successfully navigating the world with Usher Syndrome provides great hope to the younger kids.
As Emily said in her interview, "We've got a range of, mentors here that, have traveled the world who are doing incredible, college or university degrees from whether it be history or audiology. Some are working in or studying finance, aerospace engineering, just the most incredible range of career paths that these young adults are taking. And what that shows to our younger teens is that there is no reason why their Usher Syndrome needs to narrow their choices for their future. And that's what really camp is all about. It's not really about the archery, the kayaking, the bushwalking and the basketball!"
This Saturday 20th September is Usher Syndrome Awareness Day. Every contribution will help Usherkids continue its important & life-changing work!

Some frame grabs from video I shot at the celebration of ’s life a couple of weekends ago in Palm Beach.

Waves of emotion I felt that day were incredibly powerful. Jack never did anything half-heartedly, he put his heart & soul into everything he did & inspired others to do the same.

He made a huge difference to me & was a shining light in my darkest hour. Gone but never forgotten.

Love to the McCoy ohana.
