🦧 Just Wow 🦧
A dream come true
This day was a big driver behind my current work trip to the Indonesian Archipelago with a quick trip to Borneo to meet our cousins.
I’m struggling to find the words to describe this experience, each creature truly had their own characteristics and personality, from the cheeky teenagers trying to fill their mouths (and hands and feet) with all the food they could and sneaking up the trees to devour it, to the babies who hands would reach for the food while never letting go of the safety of their Mum.
I had a mum with not one but two young, walk within a meter of me to make her way across the path, her soulful eyes - a feeling I’ll never forget.
The orangutan are pregnant for 9 months, they’ll breast feed for 5 years, and baby will stay with mum until they’re between the ages of 6-8 years ! The longest of a primate.
Their sheer strength and agility is phenomenal, all the while their gentle presence is remarkable.
Deforestation is their biggest threat, if you haven’t already, please stop using any products with palm oil, as its wiped out over 70% of their forest homes.
This has well and truly been etched into my mind and soul, nothing but gratitude here 🙏🏽 🦧
