Short trip in our caravan through the Western Downs. We based ourselves in Meandarra for a couple of nights, and on the first evening the sky absolutely exploded with colour after sunset. The Belt of Venus came through spectacularly — one of those moments where you just stand there and take it in.

The following night I struggled to find a foreground that worked, wandering around until I came across the grain silos just out of town. They turned out to be an interesting subject against the fading light. All photos were handheld, taken with the Leica V‑Lux.

Follow up from last week's post from Stonehouse Moore. I picked out some characters on the day, let me know your favorite. I have framed them for Instagram hence the black border on some. I am confused if these photographs fall under street photography, what are your thoughts. Field Photography??? Not sure of the genre of this type of photography. +wportrait

Last weekend decided to pay a visit to Stonehouse, Moore for their Heritage open day weekend last 25-26 July. Nice to see so many people having a good time and taking in what it must have been like to live in a time where thing seemed to be hard yet so much simpler and hands on. this is a start of a series that I will be posting over the next week or so.

I’ve grown very fond of the channel markers viewed from Baxter’s Jetty in Shorncliffe. It’s a scene that keeps drawing me back, and I’m sure I’ll return many more times — watching the tide shift, the clouds build in the distance, and seeing how the light changes the mood. Whether I can improve on the photographs I’ve already taken… time will tell.

I enjoy shooting this location in black and white, especially with very long exposures. Most of these images sit around the two‑and‑a‑half‑minute mark, except for the one taken under storm clouds. I also like exploring different formats. I’ve always leaned toward a 16×9 ratio, similar to what you see on a TV screen, but recently I’ve discovered the 64×24 panoramic format, which is widely used and gives a striking, expansive feel.

As you grow with your hobby — in my case, photography — you learn things along the way and naturally want to explore different aspects of the craft. Will I stick to this particular style forever? I doubt it. If something catches my eye, I’m not going to walk past it and say, “Sorry, that’s not my style.”

I like taking photographs that speak to me in the moment. That’s the joy of my photography.

It’s wild how a moment can feel like it’s taking its time to unfold, and then—gone. Rainbows are like that: they build themselves slowly out of shifting light and moisture, almost hesitant, and then vanish as if someone just flicked a switch. There’s something poetic in how fragile they are, how they remind you that beauty doesn’t owe you permanence. (Thank You Copilot for this beautiful description)

Beautiful afternoon at Baxter's Jetty, Shorncliffe. never seem to amaze me how the conditions change within mere minutes. This would have to be my favorite that afternoon. There are more to come, that I will post later. don't want to spoil this one. The others are Black and White. A slight rainbow starting on the horizon.

Very happy to have my photograph "Calm Waters" showcased in this year’s Signature Art Exhibition with ET-AL Gallery and Studio.
The final photograph in this post is of Alison James, the owner–operator of the gallery. Alison is a wonderful supporter of local artists — not only does she provide opportunities for us to exhibit, she also offers genuine encouragement. Her monthly exhibition openings are always a delight, creating a welcoming space to meet and talk with a wide variety of artists.
I’m truly grateful to have been selected on several occasions to showcase my work. It’s an honour every time.

Recent visit to O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat. I was sitting on the deck overlooking the valley, with Mount Warning — Wollumbin — rising quietly in the distance. I had my telephoto with me and took a couple of frames, though looking at the back of the camera I didn’t think they’d amount to much.

Curiosity got the better of me later. I imported them into Lightroom, converted them to black and white, and started working the tones. After a fair bit of shaping and refinement, the final result turned out surprisingly satisfying.

Recent visit to O'Reilly's I did get a chance to go out for a morning walk and a morning bird walk. Well, the bird walk photos where a disaster none turned out, they looked sharp on the back camera screen, on the computer screen, nah. Fully open aperture and ISO sitting at 3200. didn't work. Disappointing. Anyway, I also struggled with the bigger vista and found this too hard to photograph. Then possibly I should have gone for a bigger walk deeper in the forest. Anyway, I did get a couple of shots of some ferns and a leaf that caught my eye. the dragon and ferns with branch were from a different place I thought it would complement the series. Don't mind the Black and White.
