One of the biggest questions we get before a family session is…
“What should we wear?” 💚

The good news? You don’t need perfectly matching outfits to create beautiful photos.

The best family photo outfits are comfortable, coordinated, timeless, and feel like you ✨

We’ve put together some simple tips to help make planning your outfits feel less overwhelming and a whole lot easier.

Save this for your next family session 💚

Ragamuffin Lucy 💚

Lucy has been part of this family for such a big part of life. At 12 years old, she’s watched Sam’s girls grow up beside her, from little kids to now heading out into their own lives.

When Sam told me she wanted photos of Lucy with her girls, it felt so important. Not just because Lucy is getting older, but because these are the memories that matter most. The family they’ve been together for all these years.

Lucy was part of our 2026 calendar project, and we photographed this session at the beautiful Tesselaar’s Tulip Festival in Monbulk after hours. Surrounded by the flowers, her girls, and so much love, it really was such a special evening.

Sam calls Lucy her little “Ragamuffin”, and you can tell just how loved she is. These portraits are more than just pictures; they’re a way of holding onto this stage of life and everything Lucy has meant to their family over the years. 💚

This one felt really personal 💚

We spent a bit of time getting to know their family and their fur babies, then used their own garden to capture it all in a way that felt true to them. Nothing forced, just moments in a space that already means something.

It’s always special knowing these photos become more than just images — gifted to family, shared, and kept for years to come.

And being part of something bigger, supporting the Gembrook Wildlife Shelter, made it even more meaningful 💚

Beautiful Memories with Bonnie, Ziggy & their Humans 💚

A couple of months ago, I had the pleasure of photographing the gorgeous Bonnie and Ziggy with their wonderful pet parents, and their print collection has come together so beautifully.

The light on the day was absolutely stunning, and everything worked out perfectly. As our pets get older, these photographs become so much more than pictures on a wall, they become a way of holding onto a chapter of life that means the world to us.

I'm so grateful to have helped preserve these memories for Bonnie, Ziggy, and their family. 💚

Big Brownie Points for This Dog Dad 💚

Meet Ziggy and Bonnie.

Ziggy is a nine-year-old Wolfhound cross and Bonnie is a four-year-old Staffy x Kelpie. Both are rescues, both are adored, and both are such an important part of their family's story.

This session was organised because Ziggy has entered his senior years and had recently started showing signs of ageing after an injury. His humans knew they wanted to capture this chapter of their lives together while they could.

One of my favourite things about this session is that it took place in their own backyard in Monbulk. The dogs were most comfortable there, and after a visit beforehand to check the location and light, I knew it would be the perfect place to start. We then headed to nearby Olinda for some beautiful walking portraits amongst the trees.

And here's where the brownie points come in...

This entire session was organised by Dad. 💚 He was the one who reached out, planned everything, and made sure these memories would be preserved for their family.

As an added bonus, Mum and Dad also received something they had never had before, professional portraits together as a couple.

Because sometimes a photography session isn't just about the dogs. It's about capturing the people who love them and the life they've built together.

Murphy 🐾

Murphy belongs to a close friend of mine, and for years we’d talked on and off about doing a photo shoot with him. Life got busy, distance got in the way, and it just never happened. So when we organised a holiday together, I packed my camera and told my friend, “We’re doing this.”

The fact is, Murphy is a senior boy now who has had some health issues. And when you start wondering how much time you have left with a dog who has been a part of your family for so long… photos and lasting memories suddenly matter a whole lot more. Especially because Murphy was their baby before they had a baby of their own.

So one evening in Echuca, around a dam at sunset, we went for a walk and let things happen naturally. Murphy with his people. Dad was a little hesitant at first (as dads often are 😅), but by the end I think everyone knew why we did it.

These weren’t portaits captured because someone booked a session. They were captured because people I care about needed these forever memories, and I’m so grateful I got to do this for them. One day, when Murphy isn’t here anymore, they’ll still have these moments to hold onto 💚

Love sessions like this 💚

This one was all about keeping things simple and relaxed, just a family, their fur baby, and some genuine moments together.

I always aim to make the whole process feel easy from start to finish, so hearing that they were happy with how everything was organised (and the final photos) means a lot.

And honestly… pets are always welcome here 💚

Charlie and Finn were part of our 2026 Pets of the Hills Calendar Project, and if you’re local to the Dandenong Ranges, there’s a good chance you’ve seen these two handsome boys out and about with their humans. 💚

Charlie, the golden retriever, is a very special senior boy and has such a beautiful bond with his dad. Like a lot of people, he wasn’t too keen on being in the photos at first, but after a little convincing, we captured a few together for the calendar… and they ended up being some of their favourite images from the whole session.

We photographed them during daffodil season last spring in the Dandenong Ranges, which made the perfect backdrop for these boys. Finn, their border collie, brought plenty of personality to the session too. He may let Charlie take the spotlight sometimes, but he’s every bit as loved.

Their family are also heavily involved with rescuing and fundraising for golden retrievers in Victoria, and it’s always so lovely photographing people who care so deeply for not only their own dogs, but the wider dog community too.

Sessions like this are such a good reminder that the connection you have with your pets deserves to be documented too.
