Feeling incredibly happy, proud, grateful - all the feels really after hosting another epic Becoming a Birth Photographer workshop with .birthphotography 💖

A huge thank you to our models and .gary - we couldn’t of done the day without you ✨

I’m sitting on cloud 9 thinking about how I got to spend the day with women who are beginning their birth photography journey, I am so excited for them and can not wait to see their art! Thank you for making the day a stellar one .images .birthphotography 🥰

And a massive thank you to Jami from Wildflowers and Twine for helping us throughout the day and for capturing behind the scenes, so grateful for your presence 🙏🏼✨

Big love,
Sara ###

Top 5 things I’d do differently if I was starting over:

1️⃣ I wouldn’t stress about having a perfectly finished website. A website is an ever evolving organism that you can play with until the cows come home. It’ll never be perfect. Just get it out there so your ideal client can find you.

2️⃣ Prioritising community over competition ALWAYS - I could not do this job without my birth community. Especially with the restrictions around covid and having to isolate at the drop of a hat as well as being able to confidentiality debrief with like minded friends.

3️⃣ I would sign up to a customer relationship management (CRM) platform straight away. It makes my life so much easier to keep track of my workload and keeps things professional. I use (For 20% off Studio Ninja every month for the first year - SA140480Y)

4️⃣ Requesting Google Business reviews from the beginning would be super helpful. How many times have you wanted to read a review when researching into buying something?

5️⃣ Don’t compare myself to others. We are all in different places on our business and photography journeys. When I first started out it was easy to compare myself to others but once I understood we are all on our own individual journey it was way easier to find my unique style.

Head to the link in my bio to get your ticket to Becoming a Birth Photographer with myself and .birthphotography to learn all this and so much more!

Water Birth is now available at Osborne Park Hospital 👏👏👏

Meet Elly and Stuart and their beautiful baby girl! They were the centre of a hub of excitement yesterday at WNHS at Osborne Park Hospital when first time mum Elly had the first ever water birth in the maternity unit! Water birth is an option that has been available to eligible women at KEMH, in the Family Birth Centre and with our Community Midwifery Program, but with Elly choosing to avoid an epidural she proceeded to use water in the bath to manage her pain. Elly said her midwives were so supportive of her choice to use the bath they suggested she stay there as the labour progressed. “I was blown away by how supportive everyone was of my choices,” she said. “I had friends and family who had birthed here, and I knew they loved it but my whole birth experience has exceeded my expectations it’s been amazing.” NMHS_Teamwork

It is time for birth support restrictions to be eased in Western Australia!

The current one support restriction has been in place since the 31st of January 2022.

Since then, the WA border has reopened, nationally and internationally.

Quarantine measures have been relaxed.

Close contacts protocols have changed with isolation only being required in situation of present symptoms or a positive test.

All capacity limit rules have been lifted

60,000 people can attend Optus stadium but a birthing person can only have one support person.

The birth of a child is a once in a lifetime event and will be with that person forever. Evidence shows the way a women feels during her birth directly impacts and influences her mental and emotional health during postpartum and beyond. It is a human right that women can have the support they want. This could be an additional friend, sister, mother, aunty, doula, birth photographer.

With one in three women experiencing birth trauma and postnatal depression and anxiety on the rise, the West Australian Government needs to review and remove the one birth support person restriction.
