Spent the afternoon yesterday photographing bison at Sandy Valley Bison, just a few minutes from home.

Getting close to these animals was something else entirely. Massive, calm, ancient and powerful all at once.

What hit me most though was listening to Steve talk about them. His passion for bison conservation and their history was genuinely inspiring.

It’s hard to comprehend that North America once had an estimated 30 to 60 million bison roaming the plains. By the late 1800s, fewer than 1000 remained after one of the largest mass slaughters of a mammal species in human history.

Thankfully conservation efforts pulled them back from the brink, but their story is still one of the greatest wildlife tragedies on the planet.

I honestly can't wait to photograph wild bison one day 🦬

For now though, spending time with these incredible animals right here at home was pretty special.

Back home and straight back into it.

The editing begins. Thousands of images from the past few months, from time in the field with KopeLion, Conservation South Luangwa and Zambian Carnivore Programme, to the incredible safaris I have been lucky enough to host.

I upgraded and simplified the workspace to make it a little easier on myself, but the reality is most nights look like this. Two to three hours in front of the screen after a full day of work.

I have the attention span of a goldfish when it comes to editing, so honestly it can feel like torture some nights 🤣

But this part matters. This is where the stories come to life.

This moment is from the southern Serengeti plains while working alongside the KopeLion team. Quiet, raw and exactly why I keep doing this.

It’s not always glamorous, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Most people wouldn’t look twice at this little guy.

An Asian House Shrew. Small, common, and usually overlooked.

But seeing one for the first time… I was excited.

It was ridiculously fast and way harder to photograph than I expected, which made getting these shots even more rewarding.

While everyone focuses on the big, iconic species, these little animals are out here living their lives right under our feet.

And they matter just as much.

A good reminder that wildlife isn’t only about the big moments.

Sometimes it’s the small stuff that tells the bigger story.
