THE EVIDENCE IS MOUNTING…

We’ve tried to be sensible about it.

We’ve told ourselves the tiny doors appeared by chance. That the miniature wreaths hanging from woodland cottages are perfectly ordinary. That the little ladders disappearing into the trees must surely lead nowhere at all.

And yet…

Every season, new signs appear throughout The Woods.

A cottage tucked amongst the branches.

A clock keeping woodland time.

A tiny doorway left slightly ajar.

A wreath carefully hung in preparation for autumn’s arrival.

Someone — or something — is clearly very busy when we’re not looking.

Visitors often ask us if fairies really live here.

The truth is, we’re not entirely sure.

But after years of discovering hidden dwellings amongst the trees, stumbling across miniature furniture, and finding evidence of tiny residents going quietly about their business, we’re beginning to suspect there may be more to The Woods than first meets the eye.

Perhaps the real question isn’t whether fairies exist…

Perhaps it’s whether you’ve remembered how to look for them.

For most of my working life, I styled food for magazines and brands — creating images designed to tempt and delight.

But baking at home has always been something quieter. More personal. Something I do for the people I love.

It’s a Piece of Cake was born from that feeling.

On April 26, I’ll be hosting this hands-on mini dessert workshop at The Woods Daylesford, sharing four of my favourite little showstoppers — recipes that look impressive, yet are beautifully simple to recreate.

Each dessert can be made gluten-free or with traditional ingredients, so you can bake in the way that suits you best. You’ll make your own individual mini desserts from start to finish as we build, layer, pipe and finish together.

Along the way, I’ll share the subtle techniques and presentation details I’ve learned over decades — the small touches that elevate something simple into something truly special.

This day is relaxed, generous and confidence-building. It’s about rediscovering the pleasure of baking and the quiet joy of placing something handmade on the table.
