Honoured to have created this year’s Garma Festival poster for Bukmak (Everyone). 💫
A project grounded in connection, culture, history and community - and a reminder of the stories that continue to shape the North.
Grateful to play a small part in an event that carries such deep cultural significance across generations and beyond borders.
Big thanks to Yothu Yindi Foundation for trusting us with this piece. ❤️
This year’s Garma Festival poster is a powerful visual expression of the theme, Bukmak (Everyone).
It shows a single composite face formed from Garma images of three men; Yolngu, Timorese (top left) and Makassan (bottom left).
We see the traditional regalia of these proud and ancient nations - each strong and unique in its own right.
But together, the individual identities become one person, a symbol of the global community to which we all belong, and the shared humanity that connects us across cultures and continents.
The image also speaks to the deep and enduring relationships that have shaped the country’s north for centuries, long before modern Australia existed.
The links between Yolngu, Makassan and Timorese date back hundreds of years, encompassing strong economic and cultural ties that are still celebrated in Arnhem Land today.
Come and celebrate Bukmak with us at this year’s Garma Festival, from Friday 31 July to Monday 3 August, at the Gulkula ceremonial grounds on the Gove Peninsula in the Northern Territory.
A limited number of corporate tickets remain available, along with passes for the Youth Forum and local residents.
