A different place for Anzac Day this year, just outside Darwin. People gathered in the dark to stand as the sun rose with respect towards all those who served and still do.

A bit over a week of shooting stories with Australian Associated Press, The variety is the the spice that pushes me as a photographer and the little moment at the end. Protests for and against, Governors, Heatwaves seeking shade and leaping to stay cool, fires and flights to fire them, Political leaders old and new, monsters, professors, a Prime Minster, Pam the bird, a cup of tea, and a genuine moment with public people. Looking forward to many more!

I would love to know what drives others to chase photos?

Better aurora than never.
Trying something new matters, not getting it perfect.

Over the past couple of years there have been some amazing auroras in Australia. Because of timing, cloud, travel, and work, they all passed me by.

Last night, after knocking off, the radio was full of chatter about a big display, so I went out to give it a crack. Not the best location, but a strong display. Not perfect images, but a first attempt I’m happy with.

This is how experience is built. Turning up when the opportunity appears, working with what’s available, and learning by doing. Give it a go.

There is hope in the end. The aftermath of flash flooding across Wye River, Cumberland River and Separation Creek.

Riverbanks were torn open. Cars were pushed out to sea. Furniture, camping gear and personal belongings were scattered along beaches and creek mouths.

Warnings issued ahead of the worst conditions likely saved lives. After locals and vistors returned to the shoreline, working through debris, recovering what they could and helping each other begin the clean-up.

After a long week for Victoria, already marked by fire and disruption, these moments matter. Damage tells one part of the story, what communities do in the face of it matters.

There is hope in the end.
