πΏ Darwin's Weather Is Having Commitment Issues... and We Love It! π€ͺ
The sun will rise.
Someone will (always) complain it's too hot.
And eventually, the Dry Season will pack its bags and leave.
Except... it hasn't!!!
Here we are, enjoying beautiful 22-degree mornings, and honestly, itβs been incredible!!! Who agrees? π
Surely we should be moving towards build-up weather??? The rain pants know it. The umbrellas know it. Even that raincoat hanging in the wardrobe knows it. Yet every morning we step outside and are greeted by a crisp morning instead of humidity trying to give us an unsolicited hug. Iβm not complaining! π In fact, some might say it's cause for celebration!
The plants certainly seem to think so. Desert roses are bursting with colour (and life?!), orchids are producing their delicate blooms, and red claw heliconias are standing proudly like tropical fireworks. Some plants seem determined to enjoy one last curtain call before the Wet Season arrives π. It's as though the plant kingdom received a memo saying:"Quick everyone, bloom while the weather is perfect!"And bloom they have.πΊ
Walking through our garden, with half the grass already gone to retirement and the other half vibrant and full of life, feels a bit like wandering through a giant botanical display of organised chaos. Some colours are brilliantly bright, while other patches are as brown as forgotten egg cartons meant for recycling left in the sun π΅βπ«
Yet the mornings are gentler, the blooms are thriving, and even an amateur gardener like me can look at the desert roses, orchids and red claw heliconias and think, "Yes, I absolutely intended all of this." ππΏ
But let's not be fooled! The signs are there. The Dry Season is lingering like a guest who keeps saying they're leaving but somehow starts another half hour conversation at the front gate π. The storms are coming. βοΈThe humidity is warming up in the bullpen. The afternoon clouds are beginning to stretch and yawn. Soon enough we'll be swapping our glorious 22-degree mornings for weather that feels like walking through warm soup (again) π
Yet for now, Darwin is enjoying this rare little bonus round!
A few extra weeks of open windows.
A few extra morning coffees outside. β
A few extra opportunities to pretend gardening isn't hard work.π
π΅βπ«
So if you find yourself stepping outside in the morning and smiling at the crisp morning air, know you're not alone. While some people might laugh at celebrating a 22-degree morning in the Top End, we know better. π
Because in Darwin, weather this awesome is worth stopping to appreciate!
Are your desert roses, orchids or heliconias putting on a show right now? What is it around you thatβs still celebrating? Share some photos below. Is this the Dry Season's grand finale, or simply the calm before the storm?
Ps. What is this orchid called and does it truly only bloom once a year?!?! π΅βπ«π€ͺπ
