I’m excited to share a recent feature in Australian Design Review! 📰✨
I had a great conversation with the editor about collaborating with designers to capture their projects through photography. We dove into how visuals can tell the story of design and bring these incredible spaces to life.
If you’re curious about the intersection of photography and design, you can check out the article here: https://www.australiandesignreview.com/.../shaping.../

I’d love to hear your thoughts—how do you see photography shaping the way we experience design?”

Michelle Williams talks to Australian Design Review about the art of architectural and interior photography.

Hello friends!

Random question and (possible huge favour). Is anyone travelling to Melbourne from Sydney over the weekend?

There is a lens that I’d love to use for a shoot Monday. The only stock in Aus is at Georges, Sydney. So I’d be asking a massive favour to get the lens couriered to you in Sydney today and brought back to Melbourne. I know it’s a long shot but appreciate that I have friends to give it one last go! Thanks in advance!

Reflecting on the journey we embarked on 7 years ago when we acquired our mudbrick on 2 acres in Eltham... The initial allure of a home filled with bookshelves, art, and a piano blinded us to the extensive work that lay ahead. On handover day, reality hit us hard – no heating, minimal lighting, and worst of all, no natural light!

Despite the challenges, we decided to embrace the journey. Living amidst the renovation has been tough, but the support from friends, family, and talented designers in my community has been invaluable. With a nonexistent budget, every improvement has been a labor of love funded from our own pockets. We've rolled up our sleeves, enlisted the help of skilled tradespeople, and slowly transformed our space.

It's not perfect, but it's a far cry from where we started. Swipe through for a glimpse of the before and a fun throwback video of us living upstairs while jackhammering away at the slate! The journey continues, and we're excited for what lies ahead. "

Exploring Cobargo National Park post-2020 fires, captured in image #4. As I ventured towards the boundary where the flames ceased their devastating path through the bush, a glimmer of hope emerged in the resilient palms, defiantly standing amidst the charred landscape.

What draws me in is the inherent connection between the Polaroid and the scene it encapsulates—the way the light interacts with the chemicals on the substrate, developing in real time before my eyes. Amidst the chemical mishaps, it's as if a peculiar doppelgänger of the subject emerges, a ghostly reflection of its haunting past, yet somehow still present in the moment.

The latest addition to my Cobargo series; As I delved into using expired film, I began to grasp a deeper realization. These overlooked areas, overshadowed by pandemic news (and yes, who could overlook Scott Morrison's Hawaiian retreat?), felt truly forgotten.

The unpredictable quirks of expired chemicals intensified the eerie ambiance, reinforcing a nagging feeling of unease.

A year ago, I embarked on a new creative journey, experimenting with an expired Polaroid process on my 4x5 Toyo studio rail camera.

This initial series captures the haunting beauty of the State Forest near Cobarbo, Southern NSW, a town still reeling from the devastating fires of 2020.

As I wandered through the charred landscape two years later, I couldn't shake the feeling that amidst the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ongoing struggles of these communities were being overlooked. Conversations with locals revealed a deep mental and financial toll as they worked to rebuild their lives.

Venturing into the bush with my hefty camera, uncertain if the vintage film would cooperate, allowed me to immerse myself in the raw energy of nature and reflect on the collective memory of that challenging time.

🌿✨ Hey there, new beginnings ahead! ✨🌿

I'm incredibly grateful for the diverse community surrounding me – from designers and architects to photographers, clients, colleagues, and friends – who consistently support both my artistic endeavors and my commercial practice.

For commercial photographers like myself, nurturing personal projects is vital to maintaining our passion for the craft. However, I've often found it challenging to explore freely without disrupting the cohesive look of my commercial Insta grid.

That's why I've decided to carve out a dedicated space for my artistry! Introducing .michellewilliams, where I'll be sharing my creative experiments, musings, and artistic ventures without constraints. I can't wait to share this journey with you all and connect on a deeper level. x Michelle

The softness of the water and the colors of the Australian rainforest are both vivid and serene, don't you think?

I must admit, I am extremely impressed with the outcome of using my Linhof Master Technika land 5x4 camera for the first time on location on Gadubanud lands.
