Wellll looky here then! Two posts in two days in one year 😏 aren't you guys lucky!

I think Its about time I came out of my cozy nook to show the world a. I still exist b. some work (would probably be a good start) and c. what's changed in my life since hibernation πŸ™†πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ‘ΆπŸ» because we all love a good gander don't we!

So let's begin with some work shall we - a collection of warm fuzzy feels from recent (ish) family shoots (thanks COVID) that totally makes you want your own photos of your family looking just as loved up and candid - amirite?!

Tell me when was the last time you got photos of your family done?

✌🏻

I'll come out of hibernation for this one... and all my LOVE today for your anniversary! You two are absolute rockstar...

My gorgeous, beautiful, amazing Nonna who's pushing 90 this July just warms my heart.β €
β €
She's so able, and animated, and sprightly, and joyous, and loving, and so so petite. β €
β €
She's so perfectly, , in her blue stylish cardi (padded shoulder pads and all) that my dad bought her in the 70s (both featured), sitting in an armchair shes had ever since I've been alive (at least), in her minimal living room boasting blue carpet from the 50s, coffee table from the 60s, and blue wall paint from the 90s. β €
β €
She's also had that mug since forever. β €
β €
Ahh my resourceful, ever bubbly, youthfully 90 year old Nonna.β €

I'm a real big believer that photographs need to be printed. I mean that's how it always was, right up until the digital era hit. It was how you saw what you shot, there was no other way to see your frame until you had it developed and printed off.β €
β €
We kinda forgot about that bit being important along the way, and settled for having images shoved on a USB only to be looked at once in a blue moon when you stumbled across said USB in a draw somewhere. β €
β €
There's a certain kind magic that comes from holding a print. Your image takes on a whole different meaning when its able to be held in the flesh, compared to viewing it on a screen. It's more personal.β €
β €
These prints are a beauty and I absolutely love the quality of them. They are hand torn fine art matte prints that really bring out the smallest detail in every shadow, midtone, and highlight. The quality they boast is second to none and these bad boys are printed with the utmost care and dedication seen this side of the hemisphere, by one of Australia's oldest professional labs. β €
β €
Since restrictions have eased ever so slightly, I will be offering family shoots again shortly to anyone who would love to have their heartfelt, genuine moments captured. And what a time to really document some sentimental moments. A time when the importance of family is being appreciated more than ever before. Plus look at all that extra time you have on your hands, it will give you something to do and look forward too whilst isolating.β €
β €
Plus, the great part is that these prints are included in any of my photography packages. Win win. The ol' website is being updated to accommodate these new times but when its live do yourself a favor and book your family a shoot. β €
β €
DM me if any one is interested and wants to know more in the mean time, and just wanna gather an idea of how it works and what's included. Happily offering to families based in the or the β €

The Uffizi Art Gallery in Florence Italy, is famouse worldwide for its collection of paintings (and scultpures) from the Middle Ages to the Modern period.β €
β €
The collections of paintings from the 14th-century and Renaissance period include some absolute masterpieces from Giotto, Simone Martini, Piero della Francesca, Beato Angelico, Filippo Lippi, Botticelli, Mantegna, Correggio, Leonardo, Raffaello, Michelangelo and Caravaggio.β €
β €
Though seeing such beauties like the Birth of Venus in the flesh (scroll to the end to see her) is a real once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I kinda became more intrigued with the guests of the gallery. β €
β €
I could make a whole body of work of photos that I've taken of people at galleries taking photos of art. There is also no need to point out the irony here - I am well aware. 😎 @ Uffizi

Hey guys, I'm Daina ✌🏻 A thirty-something year old, board game addict, self-care enthusiast, yogi wannabe - who mostly listens to music made before I was born, with an insatiable craving for wonton noodle soup.β €
β €
I thought its bout time I introduce myself properly for anyone that isn't my mum, so you can finally put a face to a name.β €
β €
Other than listening to Queen on repeat and spending days hunting down decent soup - I'm also a wife to the best husband everrr, a sister to 3 older siblings, the youngest babe to the most caring parents out, and a stubborn virgo (if that counts for anything)β €
β €
Yet more importantly I pride myself on being a documentary photographer (soz fam) I'm also a small business owner who by default wears many hats like marketer, copywriter, social media manager and accountant. It's a hard slug, but the passion and love I have for all things photography is too strong to let my story be anything else. β €
β €
I've been shooting since 2013 and have been fortunate to experience many fields of photography such as product, food, interior, events, and travel. Next to working with the likes of Canon, Airbnb, The Leukaemia Foundation, and many swanky eateries and venues throughout Sydney - my biggest highlight was a year sabbatical travelling this glorious globe with my camera in hand, and husband in tow β €
β €
Travelling for 14 months gave me the opportunity to hone in on my craft and develop on my skills as a photographer. By documenting my travels to no agenda but my own, gave me the insight to figure out what type of photographer I aim to be.β €
β €
Μ‡d19 means my business as usual, is unfortunetly no longer usual. I can't go out to shoots for the foreseeable future so instead of sitting here like a sack of potatoes reading game of thrones every second of my day, I hope to inspire and resonate with fellow photographers by sharing what I've learnt along the way, so you too can learn or up-skill. A safe space for new learning.β €

So, to new, dear, and longtime virtual friends of my Insta, I say a big warm Hiya from me to you, and look forward to getting to know you all a lil betterπŸŒ™

Happy 30th sunlap to my most favourite human in this galaxy πŸͺ

πŸ¦Ήβ€β™‚οΈ My warrior who thrives to feed his ambitions without fear. A confident man you are, whose warm nature draws you in, makes you feel safe.

You are a driven, passionate, mischievous (but not devious) man. Impulsive, but never foolish. You speak boldly with truth and intellect. ⚘

You boast a raw enthusiasm that propels you up and down mountains. You are my adventurer, my haven, my bestie.

I love you endlessly πŸŒ™ @ Newcastle, New South Wales

β™‘ Are you doing something that makes your heart sing?...

I see you sister. You're home in isolation feeling overwhelmed, lost, scared, and probably anxious about a million things that you're mulling over in your head because the world is an unusually weird place right now. I see you, because I am you.

But that doesn't have to be the case, what are you doing right now to ensure you look after yourself during this time? Are you allowing yourself to indulge in things that make you feel happy, positive, inspired, creative, womanly, or sexy? If eating a cinnamon doughnut whilst floating in a soothing hot bath with Enya playing in the background while scented candles are lit everywhere (πŸ’…πŸ»πŸ˜) then do it! Do something today that makes your heart sing.

I see you because I am you. I am an anxious person at the best of times and this virus is altering my life like it is for a lot of you too. But instead of feeling stuck, overwhelmed and lost, I'm recognising that my energy is super low and I'm working on filling it back up. I'm not useful to anyone or myself if I don't make my well being a priority.

For me, editing my travel photos from 3 years ago is what is making me feel like my cup is filling up again. I'm reminiscing about amazing adventures whilst doing something I love. The opportunity nor time to do so, has veen available to me until now. My silver lining. My heart song. The cure to my ailment. What's yours?

Later today I will be posting another video talking about what my go to lenses for portraiture and general lifestyle are, and why I find prime lenses to be a better choice over zoom lenses. A casual discussion and perfect opportunity for anyone who needs a perk up, wants to learn somwthing new, or is interested in wanting to take their images to the next level creating thought provoking, engaging, and timeless photos of their loved ones (and pets) whilst isolating at home.

These shots were taken whilst travelling through Nepal over 2.5 months. Shot with a canon 5D mark iii body, a canon 70-200mm f2.8 telephoto lens, and a 50mm f1.2 prime lens (or fixed lens). Edited yesterday using
