I found some fleeting golden treasures at Murray's yesterday arvo. That hazy winter light and those salty rays peeking over the dunes were just glorious! Definitely worth a look if you're down there when the sun gets low.

Two different days, completely different weather, same island. It’s a great reminder of how much a change in light and atmosphere can reset the exact same landscape.

On my last day in Japan, I walked out of a shop after stocking up on some fancy KitKats only to find the street being closed off and traffic redirected. Curiosity got the better of me, so I stuck around to see what was happening - and ended up stumbling straight into the 29th Shibuya Kagoshima Ohara Festival.

What followed was an great mix of everything: an official opening speech, a parade featuring army and children’s bands, some brilliant police safety mascots, and then the main event - the dancing! Dozens of traditional groups in stunning kimonos took over the streets, all dancing together up and down the avenue. Absolutely everyone was smiling and having a blast. It’s funny how the best travel moments are often the ones you completely stumble into by chance.

Thanks so much for coming along on this journey with me! I've loved sharing Japan with all of you.

Shibuya! The famous scramble crossing is a lot smaller than you think, but at night time it's packed! Every time the green walk sign goes, people go nuts! I can't imagine having to drive through there! The train station seemed to have the best view from above. More crazy cars as well. I actually saw Lightning McQueen drive past, but I missed the shot!

Whenever I'm anywhere new, I enjoy googling "cool things near me" and doing them! I was 3 hours too early to check in back in Tokyo, so did a google, and hopped on a train and went for an explore. This is the Todoroki Ravine Park in the Setagaya area of Tokyo. A nice immersion in nature after the go go go of the city.

Off to Nara to visit the Deer Park! These guys and gals run the town! They're absolutely everywhere. They range from persistently nudging you, suggesting treats would be a good idea, to literally just snoozing in the shade completely ignoring you.

You can buy crackers to feed them at the entrance, but the deer there are quite practiced in getting what they want, so try to walk further in and feed the more chill and better-behaved ones.

There was also an amazing shrine with huge statues of Buddha here, but I respected their signs not to take any photos inside. There was also a pretty cool museum showing artifacts from the shrine throughout history.

The park was full of school kids on excursions. Keep an eye out for the photo that one of the kids could use as evidence for 'but the deer ate my homework!'

Off to Osaka for a bit to stay with my brother and explore Japan some more. Osaka Castle was truly breathtaking! The teal green and gold ornate details on the building were a magnificent contrast to the modern silver skyscrapers towering around it. The castle's origins date back to 1583. Like many Japanese temples and shrines, it has been rebuilt numerous times due to damage or disaster (or both!). This particular version was constructed in 1931 and now functions as a museum. Can you spot the planes flying past from nearby Osaka Airport?
