Happy New Year to all my loyal followers, customers, friends and fellow photographers. Just a reminder that the best place to follow me is - this Instagram account lives on just in case I open a new space, however all my photographic art and news can be found in my other account. I'd love to see you there!

This ancient hieroglyphic tablet was in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, where I have just spent a couple of days. I'm really looking forward to sharing some of my photographs from Egypt. The weather gods were on my side and produced a dramatic backdrop for the sphinx and pyramids.

Egypt has been so interesting to this point, and unlike expectations / travel warnings, has felt very safe. The people have been friendly, accommodating and helpful.

The economy here is doing worse than Australia by a long shot, inflation at 25% and obviously wages do not keep up.

Stay safe in 2024 but don't let perceptions prevent you from travelling to those 'high risk' places. By that I am not encouraging you to visit places with a 'Do Not Travel' flag from the government - just that our ideas of places can sometimes get in the way of reality.

I have kept my camera out of the bag and around my neck most of the time and even in busy markets have not felt at risk of theft.

I am regularly surprised by something in Africa. Did you know that plastic bags are banned completely in Rwanda and mainland Tanzania? There are so many reasons to visit these places: a lot of them with four legs, but also better in standing the history, culture and even the geography.

I learn about countries best not by reading about them in books, but walking around and seeing with my own eyes.

There are thousands of photos in my head which I couldn't or didn't take because of the environment (travelling by car, cultural considerations, respect for privacy) - and those images will never leave me.

I hope 2024 brings you some new experiences, new connections and new ideas. I think that is the translation of my hieroglyphic tablet.

Happy New Year!

Meet the inspiration for tomorrow night's Face Value exhibition - a tattered stamp album with postage stamps dating back to the 1800s stored in boxes for years.

How this turned into a portrait series? You'll have to come along tomorrow night to find out.

Opening 6-9pm Thursday 14 November (with a closing session this Sunday 3-5pm)
Glimmer Photography
211 Hawthorn Rd (inside Genesis Gym)
Caulfield North

If you arrive after 7pm, ring the doorbell on the right!

Look forward to seeing you there and showing you my latest work.

This is the week of my exhibition, Face Value.

Preparations began on the weekend with reconfiguring my studio into a gallery space.

Pictures up, lights on, action starts Thursday 14th 6pm for the opening and a closing session Sunday 17th 3-5pm.

Drop past and see what I have been working on over the last 18 months.

I have more works in progress and this project will keep me busy for the rest of my life as my goal is one portrait per place depicted by the vintage and antique postage stamps in my tattered old stamp albums.

Very brief exhibition before the studio closes just to share this concept with you.

Thank you to my willing subjects!! RSVP via link in Bio.

Kim Turner had planned to exhibit at Glimmer Gallery before we closed our doors when the building was sold.

Her work is fantastical, including faeries, unicorns and a beautiful series of Marie Antoinette.

This piece was painted based on a memory of a shared experience between myself and the artist. A 1986 lip sync performance of Cyndi Lauper's True Colours in an Interschool competition. The artist helped to choreograph the routine, I was the performer.

I love that the intensity of this memory has revealed itself in this small but personal portrait.

Try and beat me on the bidding, I dare you!

Kim's artwork is available on Etsy or via her instagram

Two years ago, Jacquelyn Stephens generously donated one of her iconic artworks to Thursday Girls Group as part of the Glimmer of Hope Art Prize.

Thursday Girls are a not for profit providing free counselling to women with metastatic or advanced breast cancer, an incurable form of the disease.

We have been waiting for the right time to auction this artwork - so as part of Thursday Girls major annual fundraiser we have included it in our online auction so that art collectors will have a chance to purchase using the link in my bio.

Bidding closes Friday 11th October at 8:30pm sharp.

Sometimes of Ether & Water II' by Jacquelyn Stephens is a stunning original artwork from a series developed in 2022 and kindly donated by the artist.

Artist Statement:
In this piece, the circles the Artist uses relate to patterns made by light and nature. She references the blurred light or 'bokeh' of photography, the dark-light of microscopic imagery, and all the image making documentary world of seeing life's glow.

The reference to light is about creating a glow, an incandenscence, a moment of illumination, something mysterious, magical and specal amidst the dark. A glimmer of hope in dark and difficult times.

This image triggers memories of moments travelling through the night traffic, facing a flurry of car headlights and rain drops on the windscreen, as we drive to find the safe warm haven of home.

Jacquelyn Stephens is an established Melbourne-based artist, who has exhibited here in Melbourne and sold works both locally and internationally.

If you know someone who will love this, please share.

If you are able to donate instead, that would be amazing. But only if you can, we understand many people are impacted by cost of living.

Attention artists: Seeking expressions of interest in being involved in another 'Glimmer of Hope' Art Prize.

I am considering running it again this year in my new studio. I have room for 13 artworks single hang or 26 double hang with my gallery lighting system.

Was thinking a 50:50 split Artists / Thursday Girls instead of the model last time.

If you might be interested, please DM me.
I miss you all.

Would be aiming for mid-October.

Prize would be an opening night space in the studio. It's not quite the same as the the old Glimmer Gallery space.
