Deep Time Photography

Deep Time Photography I am a photographer passionate about the diversity of form, line and color found in ancient rock formations.

It leads me to a place where time transcends human comprehension. This is known as 'Deep Time' and may hold more for us than we first realise.

Off adventuring again . Made it to Wotjobaluk country. Stopped for a few days in Dimboola. Checked out the pink lake just out of town. If u squint ur eyes u can see Al and I. The pink color comes from algae that release caratenoids in a hypersaline environment.

This image is of a brain coral. Corals are easily identified fossils and are thought of as palaeontological clocks. This image was taken on a rock platform near where we caught the boat to explore Yardie Creek. The guide told us that he thought the reef was about 100,000 years old. Ancient corals are no longer thought to be in existence. Modern corals, which originated after 252 million years ago in the Mesozoic, are called Sceleractinian corals of which brain coral is one.

Reddit.
It’s a privately owned quarry in the Wet Mountain Valley in Colorado, near Silver Cliff.

Just keep being amazed at what is in rock formations when you look closely. The red rectangular shape in the foreground is jasper and is often found like this when it is amongst other mineral formations. The color is saturated but the mystery of the story of this 3460 million years ago formation enchants me. A little bit Japanese!!

Have had fun playing with the permo carboniferous layers found in the most wonderful rock formations off the coast of Central NSW. Mostly phyllite with mica rich and quartz rich domains that are tectonic in origin. The prominent crenulation cleavage is what gives it the layered look and creates the beautiful fine lines.
Said to be between 272 and 315 million years old, so relatively young compared to previous posts of WA.
