One day, this will be the photo they look back on.

Not the filtered selfie or the holiday snap.

The school photo. The one that catches them exactly as they were at this age, in this year, at this school.

Photo Hendriks captures that moment with care. Local photographers, quality materials, and delivery within 20 working days.

Here's one that might surprise you.

While Photo Hendriks went fully digital years ago, most school photography companies across the world were still shooting on large roll film cameras as recently as 2015.

The industry-wide shift to digital only happened in the last decade, making it one of the last professional photography sectors to make the switch.

School photos haven’t changed… or have they?

A classroom in the 1920s.
Rows of students.
Straight posture.
Serious faces.

Fast forward a few decades…
Different uniforms.
Different styles.
But the same moment.

And today?

The setting may look more modern.
The smiles a little more relaxed.
The process more refined.

But the reason it matters hasn’t changed at all.

It’s still that one moment in time,
captured, kept, and looked back on for years to come.

Because while everything around it evolves…
what a school photo represents stays the same.

At Photo Hendriks, we respect that.

By combining experience, planning, and modern technology,
we make sure today’s photo day lives up to the same meaning it always has.

Because some things shouldn’t change.
Only improve.

Did you know?

The very first school photo was taken for admin records, not memories.

The whole tradition began in 1922 when Philadelphia school superintendent Edwin C. Broome couldn't match students' names to faces as enrolments boomed. He asked a camera company contact to photograph every child for their school file.

Parents could buy a copy to keep. From that one practical problem, an industry was born!

Sitting perfectly still for their photo. Inside their mind...off saving the world.

Every school photo is a split second of calm on the outside.

What's happening on the inside?

Only they know. We just love that we get to capture the outside.

Tag someone who looked angelic in their photo but we know better!

Finland's children don't start school until age 7, yet consistently outperform countries that start at 4 or 5.

Finland doesn't begin compulsory schooling until age 7, two to three years later than most countries.

Before then, the focus is entirely on play and early childhood development.

According to the OECD, Finnish students also have the least homework of any developed nation. Yet when PISA international assessments began in 2000, Finnish students ranked first in the world for reading.

The question school systems worldwide still can't fully answer: why does less produce more?
