I don’t know about you but I have a few outfits I’ve curated that I put on when I have to be client facing, look put together but still be comfortable (and not have to think about it too hard!)

Having a good image library does the same thing for your online presence.

Sometimes I have a bit of a meh day and showing up online feels hard. So that’s when I pull from my personal branding library to do the heavy lifting.

It means I can show up professionally but not have to dress up and get in front of the camera in the moment (because I’ve already done it!).

What does your brand image library look like?

If you’re not excited to share images and struggle to pull something together on off days, then maybe it’s time to build that library up.

PS - literally posting this from the couch in my pjs 😂😉

We only had a few minutes. They were all straight off the podium.

These portraits were captured at the NSW Health Care Awards immediately after participants gave their speeches - and most of them definitely don’t consider themselves public speakers.

That’s the thing about headshots at events and conferences: it has to be fast, but not so fast that people stop looking like themselves. My job is to get people comfortable quickly, guide them without overcomplicating it, and deliver photos that still feel natural, confident and human.

The best part? So many people looked at the back of the camera and immediately went, “Oh wow… I look really good.”

Last week’s headshot mini day was such a good reminder that a “headshot session” rarely ends up being just headshots.

We captured polished profile images, relaxed in-between moments, website banners, speaking photos, LinkedIn updates, team shots, and all those little personality-filled images that make your brand feel like an actual human — not just a cropped circle on a company page.

The best part? Everyone walked away with a gallery full of variety they can use across LinkedIn, websites, media features, email signatures, speaker bios, socials, and all the places people quietly Google you before deciding to work with you.

Safe to say the mini day delivered far more than one good headshot 👏

If you missed this round, the next one is already in the works. Link in bio to join the waitlist.

Should you get your hair and makeup done for a shoot?

Short answer: yes.
Longer answer: it depends on what you want your photos to do for you.

I’m a pretty low-key person day to day (mascara and sunscreen is about my limit), but for this shoot I chose to get hair and makeup done so I could feel a little more polished—and not spend the whole time wondering what my hair was doing.

Is this “full glam Alex”? Absolutely not.
But professional photos aren’t an everyday situation either.

They’re a tool. For your website. Your LinkedIn. Your marketing.
And sometimes that means meeting the moment, not just documenting the everyday.

So do I recommend it to clients?
Yes—especially if you want that extra level of confidence and cohesion on camera.

Not because you need to look like someone else.
But because it helps you show up as a slightly more considered version of yourself.

And that reads beautifully in photos.

Linda almost cancelled her session.

Hair and makeup done… and she was this close to washing it off and calling it off.

Because the story she’d been telling herself was: “I’m not photogenic. And honestly… who really cares what a 70-year-old woman is doing?”

But something made her pause. And show up anyway.

Linda is a writer and painter, building a creative presence online. With her second manuscript due later this year, she knew she needed images-something that felt like her- but the hesitation had been louder than the action for a long time.

So we took it gently.

Nothing performative. Nothing forced.

Just showing her the back of the camera as we went, building trust image by image.

And then this landed in my inbox after she saw her gallery 👇

“…I would have photos that looked like me. The images are exactly what I was hoping for even though I felt that my hopes were unrealistic…”

And my favourite part -her writing coach’s words:

“Courageous, creative in her power and ready to share her incredible stories with the world.”

That’s what this is about.

Not looking like someone else.
Not becoming “more photogenic.”
Just quietly removing the barrier between you and being seen.

If you’ve been putting this off… this is your sign not to wash it off and cancel.

I wish more women stepping into leadership understood that visibility doesn’t equal vanity.

You’re amazing at what you do, and now you’re stepping into a role where you’re more visible by default.

Your team and your network want to feel like you know what you’re doing — and that you’re comfortable being seen doing it.

Having updated photos that reflect this new position is a crucial part of curating your professional presence.

Tamara recently stepped into the role of National Director, and it was the perfect time to create portraits that matched this new level of visibility.

I was able to guide her through clothing choices, and with beautiful hair and makeup by , we created polished, personality-packed images she can now confidently use for media releases, the website, and LinkedIn.

The best part? She got to shape how she showed up during the portrait process, and so can you.

Visibility simply makes it easier for the right people to recognise you, trust you, and recommend you.
