Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS)

The clouds cleared last night! A couple of photos of the comet over the Cullerin Range wind farm near Collector, NSW.

In the top image, the bright "star" is Venus. The fuzzy light around Venus and toward the horizon is the Zodiacal Light, which is sunlight reflected from tiny dust particles in space.

A non-bird post... My contribution to the plethora of aurora images gracing the internet at the moment. Feeling very lucky to have seen this last night. Between sunset and the clouds we were treated to a brief outburst of naked eye beams. Simply stunning!

This bird was not happy to have me in its territory, swooping me a number of times until I moved off. There are signs in the botanic gardens warning of this swooping bird, which I'm sure has given many a visitor a bit of a rude shock.

Scarlet Honeyeater, Australian National Botanic Gardens, Canberra

These birds are relatively common further north, but I've never had much luck photographing them when on holiday there as they've tended to be high up in flowering trees. I was pretty happy to find this one which perched for 30 seconds or so in the sunlight. It's a bit of a celebrity in Canberra at the moment!
