UR KIDIN
1987 Diesel Powered VL Station Wagon
Some builds demand attention. Others earn it through detail and UR KIDIN firmly sits in the latter.
While photographing this VL wagon, it became clear that this is a diesel build where nothing has been overlooked. Every component, finish and junction point feels intentional, and the more time spent around the car, the more the level of thought and ex*****on reveals itself. Itās also refreshing to see something built so differently in a space that often follows familiar formulas.
Owned by Anna and Lee Povey, this 1987 VL is powered by a serious diesel combination, built around a Stage 2 L5P 6.6L Duramax. The engine features CNC ported heads, a SoCal Diesel billet stroker crank, Carrillo hybrid rods, Mahle pistons and a Harts Gen 2 Ultra Street 76mm turbo. Fuel delivery is handled by SES Diesel 250-over injectors and a 14mm CP3 high-speed pump, with everything managed by a MoTeC M141 ECU paired with an ECU Master PMU.
Backing the Duramax is a MEM ProMod-style lock-up T400, driving through a Spot On Performance 40-spline radial diff. The rear end is built using a Race Products Australia package, including a Strange Ultra Case alloy centre with a 3.0 ratio. The car sits on Weld Alumastars, 17x4 fronts and 15x10 rears with double beadlocks, while TBM brakes all round ensure it can be pulled up just as hard as it goes.
The exterior is finished in Pearl White QAB, a Nissan GT-R colour that suits the wagonās lines and gives the build a clean, understated presence. Inside, a custom-trimmed interior ties the entire package together, blending race intent with a high level of craftsmanship.
Anna mentioned the car was completed with only minutes to spare before its reveal. It hasnāt recorded a drag time yet, but that milestone is coming soon. Until then, UR KIDIN stands as a strong example of a well-executed diesel build one where the details do the talking long before the timeslip does.
