For the lovers of Sunday morning rides: What a gorgeous morning it was. I highly recommend the Lyneham to The Australian National University route. Flatheads O'Connor is a go to for a coffee and and egg n bacon roll and The RUC Turner Bowls Club is a go to for Lunch and a beer on the way home. Enjoy.

Let me indulge myself. Below is an excerpt of my by book "The Memorials of Anzac parade" self published on Amazon.com

Colonel Mustafa Kemal (1881-1938) led the Turkish forces which opposed the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who landed at Gallipoli from 25 April 1915. This memorial honours Kemal Atatürk and the bravery and sacrifice of the ANZAC and Turkish troops who served in the Gallipoli campaign.

The memorial’s primary element is the crescent shaped wall, inspired by the symbol on the Turkish flag. In the centre of the wall is a bronze likeness of Atatürk, a gift of the Turkish Government.

The inscription beneath - Atatürk’s own words – pays warm tribute to the Anzacs and The Memorials of Anzac Parade Canberra reflects his understanding of the awful cost of war. A time capsule containing soil from the battlefields of Gallipoli has been placed at the memorials centre. Surrounding the memorial are pine trees, Pinus halepensis from the Gallipoli ‘Lone Pine’

The memorial was originally dedicated in 1985, to mark the 70th anniversary of the first landings at Gallipoli, by his Excellency Mr Vahit Halefoglu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, in the presence of the Honourable Gordon Scholes, Minister for the Territories and Acting Minister for Veterans Affairs of the Commonwealth of Australia and the Honourable Frank O’Flynn, Minister for Defence and Associate Minister for Foreign Affairs, New Zealand.
