Meet my friend and business owner, Alex. You may have heard of a little toastie shop called Melted, based in the heart of Fyshwick, here in Canberra… Alex has more recently been working on another business that he co owns; Le Cheeserie, for all of your cheesy needs!
Among friends, he is affectionately known as our very own 'cheese guy', but of course there’s much more to Alex than just cheese…
Melted opened its doors in 2019, serving up not just any toastie; but toasties that have been carefully curated by leading Canberra chefs.
With years of hospitality experience, (little Alex, as we call him) and his co owner, Alex O’Brien (big Alex), were onto something. The pair met and became friends working at The Boathouse. After service, they would eat toasties together and the toastie idea was born.
Today, guest chefs who are seeking more sociable daytime working hours and perhaps a little less pressure, come to Melted to find rest and respite - lucky us!
With these, as Alex says, “mega fine dining chef’s”, up their sleeve, the menu at Melted is kind of a big deal!
2024 got even bigger for Alex; the Alex’s together with Kaitlyn Towner, opened Le Cheeserie, a fromagerie now open at the new Belconnen Markets. Alex’s knowledge of cheese has “gone through the roof” this year and I can say, as his friend, that we aren’t disappointed! The Alex’s and Kaitlyn just celebrated Le Cheeserie’s one year anniversary and they put on the cheese board of your wildest dreams!
When Alex isn’t obsessing over his love of local and international cheese varieties, he’s on the road tuning pianos! He’s recently picked up a camera and adopted my cat too! Watch this space...
