Together
Always
Even if there’s a world in between
Connected through the veins

Siblings, the people we learn so much with. Sometimes it’s fun. Sometimes it hurts. Sometimes it’s just pure affection.

When I photograph the relationship between siblings I do what I can to see where the connection is and then play with how it natural unfolds. Sometimes it’s hugs. Sometimes it’s just being in the same frame together but without touching because “ew”. When the attempt of forcing connection is removed, what’s always revealed is the deep hearted sense of togetherness that often lays under the surface regardless of what the day to day dynamic involves.

The arrival of a new sibling in this family to me really inspired a deep feeling of protection. The older two began a new version of life having someone they get to look after and guide through life. They carried themselves with such maturity and cared so much for this little one. How lucky she is to be scooped up by her older sibling’s.

These images always make me have flashes of memories of how life was when I was a child and with my 3 older siblings. Often I’m reminded of the moments where they cared so much for me. The moments that I can easily forget.

I love being able to make these kinds of photographs for the kids to be able to keep for the rest of their life. I want them to be able to have something that beautifully reminds them of their history, how they loved, how they were loved and how much they belong.

It’s Friday afternoon as I sit here and write this caption, noticing how much worry I have over whether I’ll write it correctly and what do I need to be saying so that someone sees me, my work and therefore hires me. Then, I found this song, “Happiness can be found in the small places” by Alberto Bresnan which tuned me in and helped me reflect on what it was that I want to express about this beautiful shoot I did recently with this new family of three. They were still getting to know each other through the transformation from two to three. Still adjusting to their new identities as mother, father and daughter. From what I observe about family life, this will be a forever adjustment.
This particular afternoon we spent together by the seaside playing in the sand, sunshine and rolling on the grass really mirrors the experience of happiness being found in the small places. Life just flowed and their love just unfolded in front of my lens. I watched as Mum melted over Dad adoring is baby girl and held her with such softness and safety. I saw Dad, admire the strength, devotion and beauty of his wife being a mother and caring for their child. I watch Baby just be in the moment, freely expressing what she felt as she felt it joy, sadness, frustration, tiredness, the need for movement and freedom.
We chose to shoot in an environment that this family spends a lot of time in, it’s quiet special to them and they know their time there is fleeting because in the next few years they will move away. We didn’t worry about “pretty” locations that have no connection to who they are right now in this life and we didn’t place huge emphasis on what they wore simply because who they are and where they are in life right now is enough.

Howdy gang! It’s been a while! I’ve been taking a step back to really figure out what feels most genuine to share here. Instead of listening to all the “experts” (who make me feel like I’m trying to sell you a used car), I want to be real with you all. Instagram is supposed to be social, right? So, I’m kicking off with more of me—not just as a business owner and photographer, but as a human who’s on a journey to becoming the raddest version of herself. So, here we go!
Last week, this image of touch popped into my head, and I realized it was the perfect way to tell you about a pretty recent discovery I made about how my brain works. It’s kind of cute and a little strange—so, buckle up.
Have you ever heard of mirror-touch synesthesia? Neither had I, until I met my brilliant friend Sophie, who was deep into her PhD research on it. Back in 2020, she told me all about it, but it didn’t click that I might have it until years later. Fast forward to 2023: we’re at a BBQ, and I’m explaining to Sophie and her boyfriend how I have to feel an emotional connection to capture an honest portrait. Suddenly, she’s like, “Wait… I think you have mirror-touch synesthesia!” Next thing you know, I’m donating my brain to science (😂), helping out with her research. Continue in the comments ⬇️

~ This is us ~

An experience to create togetherness and connection. It’s not just about making photographs it’s about fun filled family time that builds your bonds and inspires genuine emotion and appreciation.

I’m not here to force your kids to smile for the camera. Instead, we’ll let them move and be exactly who they are.

~ Flying ~

Time really does fly especially when you are having fun.

This series of dad and daughter was made in the last 10 minutes of their This Is Us shoot. I loved the total commitment from this dad to continue to make his daughter giggle and feel free even though he was physically exhausted after doing it for the 100th time.

My favourite part of a shoots is almost always the last 10 minutes. There’s a feeling of ease and familiarity amongst everyone and that’s when the fun really begins. Fun as in real emotions. That can be tears, or squeals of laughter or the gorgeous little quiet moments, it’s the genuine feelings that can come exploding out! That’s when the most impactful images are created and the ones you want in 20 years time.

Always beware with me as your photographer, when I say “one more shot” it’s never just one more because I can’t help but not put my camera down until I’m in the car on my way home.

My session lengths are designed to give us enough time to slow down and connect to now. This inspires the beautiful chaos to evolve naturally.

I hope these images can be a great reminder for all us adults to do something today that helps you connect to your own inner child.
