It has been a wild year so far, hasn’t it?! I can’t believe it’s nearly the end of June! This family booked me to come back again (for a 3rd time ❤️) to do an extended family session around Christmas. Throw in a few natural disasters, some COVID and some distance for family members to travel and you get… JUNE!

But we got there, and it was such a lovely afternoon as they had all come together to celebrate their littlest babe turning ONE! Who I photographed as a newborn! Times flies! Swipe to see!!

“She’s stronger than she looks…”

I recently photographed my best friend’s dad’s 70th birthday party! It was a hoot of a weekend! I got to catch up with all my psuedo-siblings (i.e. her brothers and sisters, two of whom I have known so long that they were in primary school when I met them). While I was chatting to one of them about their life interstate and their young family, he glanced over at his wife and with an endearing and loving look of admiration on his face, looked at me sideways and said “she’s stronger than she looks!”… I paused a moment, then looked back at him with a wry little smile and said “all women are…”.

I don’t mean that in a way that implies that women look weak or soft. I mean they have got fire and steel in their veins that isn’t always obvious from the outside. Since that conversation a couple of weeks ago, my world and inner circles have been full of women being stronger than they appear…

I have watched a beautiful mum chug on, day after day, with kiddos who just seem to catch one thing after another. Kids home sick from school and kindy, sleepless nights, endless clinginess, and right when you think you might have all kicked it, another one goes down…

I’ve watched a woman care for her mother in the final hours of her life, with the most graceful tenderness and love, while also processing her own grief and supporting her children with theirs…

I’ve watched multiple women juggle their career and family balance with amazing determination, integrity and humility…

I’ve watched a woman overcoming the ups and downs of significant morning sickness and still bringing laughter to those around her constantly…

I’ve watched a mother, who has an adult child with high-needs walk the fine and fragile line of providing support, independence and boundaries, with unconditional love…

I’ve watched a mum of a young child with severe anxiety have to make a really difficult decision for their family in order to move forward…

I’ve watched a woman balance motherhood, a new job, her own business, family life and a child with severe allergies requiring her to make just about everything that child eats from scratch…

The sun was shining yesterday!!!! It feels like weeks and weeks since I’ve been able to shoot outdoors! Rain, rain, (I do love you)… but enough is enough! I was still peering out the window an hour before the shoot expecting some kind of natural weather event to blow on in! But thankfully it didn’t, and I got to spend a very fun and energy packed afternoon with this lovely crew. I love it when Grandma has a packet of lollies hidden in her handbag, just in case 😉 Doesn’t she have the most beautiful smile… it’s like sunshine. x

SNEAK PEEK: This goooorgeous little bub has the same name as my youngest ❤️ So I had an extra special soft spot for this little guys. He was such a chilled little fellow the whole shoot!

I often have to restrain myself during newborn shoots to not ask if I can just snuggle their baby and breathe in all their delicious smells!

I always thought I would have loved to have been a midwife, but a friend of mine who is a midwife has convinced me that I would have loved being a paediatric nurse, and I think I would have… she said you get to have lots of cuddles. Sounds like me!❤️

I got to shoot a mother and daughter recently… the mum contacted me wanting to capture this special time before her daughter reaches teenage-hood in a couple of years. Their bond was so amazing and oozed out of them. We spent the afternoon hanging out doing all the things they love doing together! They spend loooots of time in their amazing yard and I’m not going to lie when I say I was asking Tanya for lots of gardening advice while I was there because I had SERIOUS garden envy!

This photo is my absolute favourite ❤️ their smiles, their connection and their fun was, and is, so incredibly special.

For those of you wondering, I was in their gorgeous jungle of a yard hiding under a giant elephant ear plant to get this shot 😂

‘Tis the season for little bubs at the moment! My schedule has been full of them of late, with more on the way soon.

You might remember a couple of months ago I shared a maternity session for a mum of 3 boys, who was having a little girl! That delightful little bundle arrived a few weeks ago, and the littlest became a big brother!! ❤️

These past few weeks have been nothing short of exhausting! All too often we look at our days and think to ourselves we don’t have enough hours in the day. Maybe it is about focusing on how we spend those hours instead…

Here’s what I find true, but I will admit, it’s a work in progress!

There is always enough time for an extra cuddle in bed with one of my boys before getting up to start the day…

for reading 10 minutes of my book before bed...

for messaging my mum back after a busy day…

for making myself an afternoon cup of tea and stopping for ten minutes to enjoy it…

There’s also plenty of time to chat to my husband about his day while I cook dinner…

Time to watch the sunset for a few minutes as the summer turns to autumn…

And there is always time to grab a photo (often just on my phone) to capture a memory…

And you know what? I’d be lying if I told you that I don’t hit the bed at the end of the day feeling exhausted from everything BUT, I will always try and make time for the little things… because in the end, these are the things that really matter to me and bring me joy! (It’s never the ironing!! haha)

Take the time, to make time, for the things that matter most.

If you’ve been looking for a family or lifestyle photographer you’ve probably realised that it can be a little overwhelming at times and I’m here to help you in your search with my 5 best tips on finding the perfect family photographer!

1. Use Google to search for photographers and read the reviews their clients have left.

2. View a photographer’s portfolio on their website and look at their “about me” page to see if you think they’ll be a good fit for your family.

3. Check out their social media accounts to see what they’ve been up to lately and what sort of locations they shoot at – do these fit with the style of shoot you’re after?

4. Find out how much their services cost – this might be available on their website or you may have to make contact with them to request their pricing.

5. Check what their packages offer. Are you provided with digital files or do you need to purchase them etc.?
