The new LUXURY is raising our own meat and harvesting our own food.
These quails were incubated and hatched (because it is very rare that quails go broody) by my 13 year old daughter hand-raised with love by our whole fam.
I think worded it so beautifully with our new learning journey:
“I know the day they hatched, I know their parents are. I sourced and mixed the feed they ate. I tended them daily and offered them pasture come rain or come shine. They lived in families, under open air, free to move, scratch, dust and run without restriction. They perched on roosts nightly in the safety of the home that cooped them. They never fear or trauma outside of what nature naturally inflicts on animals raised in groups and exposed to nature. They lived as one with the natural world, from the day their feet felt grass to the day they bled out into the soil.
The never let the safety and comfort of the lands they’ve always known. They never knew the hands of anyone unkind and the same hands that cared for them as chicks was the one to humanely end their lives to fulfil their ultimate purpose of nourishment.
I believe we are meant to consume meat, but only when animals are cared for and raised this way. I believe we are supposed to be involved in life and death, growth and management when it comes to our nourishment as a whole. I believe we would be a healthier and stronger people if we sought out connection to the food that nourishes us daily. This can be doing by getting involved directly like what we chose here but also supporting a farmer following ethics and practices that you yourself align with.”
