Hello my wonderful families and friends that I have photographed since 2012 🥰

You may have noticed I haven't been posting regularly like I used to...

The pandemic over the past two years changed a lot of things for lots of small businesses. For me - I was incredibly lucky, Whilst work slowed in my business, I gained more work in my main job which is in Broadcast TV as a Video Editor.

Just before the pandemic started I set out to complete a special photography package I had for 12 families photographing their first year with their new bundle of joy.

Tomorrow is a bitter sweet day for me, I am collecting my final pieces of artwork for that special package and for now will be hanging the camera bag up for a while to focus on working in television and spending more time with my two boys.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to so many people who encouraged me to keep going especially in the beginning, those who encouraged me too keep practising and to put myself out there. Without you, I wouldn't have had 'Kristy Ressel Photography'

I would also like to express my absolute gratitude to every single one of the families that trusted me to capture their most treasured moments. It gives me great satisfaction to know that you will have those memories to look back in years from now.

This is a goodbye to Family Photography for now, but I will still enjoy capturing landscapes for many years to come, attached are some of my most recent pics of Brisbane by night.

Something to brighten us up at the moment 🥰

A photo of two widowed penguins near St Kilda pier in Melbourne has been awarded a top international prize by Oceanographic Magazine. German photographer Tobias Baumgaertner was told the two fairy penguins had recently lost their partners, and comforted each other for hours while watching the city lights.

❤️ JOURNEY TO MOTHERHOOD ❤️

So much can change in a year. Through the life changing forces of a pandemic, we’ve watched our little Hayden develop and grow to the adventurous one year old he is today.

At 1 month we were captivated by his smile. At four months we’re we’re tormented by his sleep habits, at 7 months we joined in his daily discoveries of the world around us as we sat together for the first time.

At 10 months he became a tottering tornado hell bent on getting to the kitchen cabinets before you, and today, he is simply a bundle of enthusiasm and energy delighting in each new discovery.

2020 will be remembered by most for the impacts of covid, but for us it will forever be remembered as the year we shared watching Hayden roll, sit, crawl and toddle through his first year of life.

JOURNEY TO MOTHERHOOD
1 YEAR SESSION 💙📸

To say the first year of motherhood is a roller coaster ride is an understatement. It doesn’t truely convey the intensity of the highs and lows. You never get to pull into the station and even when you start to feel a queazy you still need to keep on riding, lap after lap . The last year has been full of nights where I sat on a cold floor in the dark and thought I couldn’t survive another night. Then the sun comes up, he looks at me the way he does, with his whole face smiling, and I feel revived. It has been full of days when I felt that I would never be able to soothe him, that I wasn’t the mum I wanted to be. Then, even after I’ve ‘messed up’, he snuggles into me and I realise I am his safe place, he loves me ‘mess ups’ and all. It’s been full of days where I would count down the minutes until his next nap, desperately wanting some time to myself. Then I get a break and all I can think about and talk about is him. I miss him. There are days where I beam with pride and excitement about the newest milestone he’s achieved. He can sit. He can crawl. Then out of no where he seems to be running. Then when he is in bed I reflect on his growth and experience grief as this means our time together as it is, is passing.

Emmett, I am not perfect. I know there will be many more highs and lows and I won’t always get things right. What I can promise though is that I will always love you, I will always own my mistakes, and I will keep striving to be the best mum I can be. Despite how challenging our start has been I can say for sure that you are worth it! Kid, you are going to move mountains.
