Had an absolute blast working with the folks from PIP Theatre on character portraits for Brace Brace! I really like the process of encapsulating emotions in images - especially when they’re not straight down the line, but need to tell the story of transition, or maybe our internal vs external faces… Shots like this have a job to do: stop your scroll, draw you in, make you curious, and encourage you to get your bum in the seat and see the show!

Fab to again aim the camera at (who plays Sylvia)!!

Brace Brace has a preview on Wed 20 May, opens Thu 21 May, and runs until Sat 30 May. Deets and tickets at 🙂

few days ago I posted a story about being on 1999 posts on Instagram, and I put the call out - what should the 2000th post be about? It should be momentous right?

Heaps of fun responses. My faves were... posting goofy silly stuff (thanks , jokes on you though, I like posting that stuff anyway), the first photo that made me think “woah, this is my art” ( I felt this one). But my absolute fave:

suggested a then vs now post, showing growth. This whole continuous-learning continuous-improvement thing is a big deal to me. If you’ve met me in the studio, you know I like to push it, figure out new techniques, try stuff - always learning and growing.

Also, I’m really thankful that I get to work with the creatives of Brisbane, building lifelong relationships. is one of those people, and I’m genuinely grateful for her friendship and the chance to continually collaborate with her.

Photographers - when you look back on your old work, don’t make “ugh” noises. That improvement from then to now is something to be really proud of!

Now accepting submissions for crazy 3000th post format. (, this gives me some time for that most elaborate selfie setup with a rube goldberg shutter trigger!!)

I got this little beauty in the mail not long ago - thank you !! It’s no small thing being recognised at an international level, and I’m very thankful.

It came with a most excellent prize too - a 4TB external ssd from , which is already integrated into my workflow!!

Also has anyone anywhere mastered the art of taking pictures of crystal trophies like this? It’s really hard!

and , you run a most excellent competition and set the bar really high. Learning from you both all the time. 🙂

How is this for commitment - in two studio shoots, months apart. Shot the Jedi. Took some serious beard-growing time. Shot the Sith. As you do!!

Fresh headshots for Taylor! I love that I get to work with Brisbane performers over a long period of time. (And Brisbane isn’t real big. Be good to everyone.) I think the first time I photographed Taylor was maybe 11 years ago? It’s always nice to aim the camera in the direction of her cheeky face!!

Anthropology is a visual feast! With a few more shows at PIP Theatre, it’s worth checking out.

Shooting this show was a bit of a challenge - the tech is like another character, and showing it all together in the best way was lots of fun.
