I’m sorry you wanted me to sleep?

Sweet little Arthur tricked us with plenty of quick naps to give the illusion he was sleepy during his session.

He wasn’t the ‘usual’ newborn age when he was finally able to come to the studio, a stint in NICU, PICU and heart surgery doesn’t make for a speedy exit out of hospital.

But I’m not mad about it, the faces, the side eyes, the arms escaping whatever wraps we did, I’ll happily take all of it.

I didn’t think I would have the opportunity to take these kinds of photos of you.

Wrapping my arms tightly around this family this coming week.

Watching your new baby with cords and monitors and tubes, putting their little life in the hands of others is scary to say the least. Leaving the hospital without your newborn is in every way an unnatural feeling and leaves you with a feeling of guilt, even though you have no choice. The longing for a warm cuddle in the quiet of the day without the beeping and quiet hustle of a NICU.

Waiting is always hard, this week it will be even harder, but a necessary step in bringing their little one home. Fixing what didn’t quite develop right as they were growing, in the most important part of the body. Thankful that surgery is an option but anxiety inducing all at the same time.

Your strong little bear, you have already shown us. We will be cheering you on and loving on those that wait on the other side of the doors to cuddle you again.

Pregnancy is a journey.

For some the path is smooth and flat, for others there may be some obstacles in the way and for a few the path twists and turns with roadblocks and left turns.

This mumma has travelled the last path, with the highest highs and the lowest lows. This journey is about to end and a new one about to begin filled with hope and uncertainty, love and fear, anxiety and relief. Waves of emotion smashing into each other as each day passes.

The next few weeks and months will be tough, putting trust in those who will do everything to see the outcome every parent wishes for, a happy healthy baby. I can only wish for this too, for this special mumma, for a dear childhood friend.

It's been a while, a long while. I promise to get back to it, to posting, to photographing, to doing what I love. Thankfully I have this beautiful little man to share, a dream session, sleepy, curly and so well behaved as a reminder of why I do love being a newborn photographer and that I might be pretty good at it 😉

I hope all my followers have a wonderful Christmas break however you get to spend it, with those who are most important to you. Cuddle, love, laugh and eat, all the best ingredients for life.

Is it just me or do find yourself consistently snacking when you sit in front of the computer for too long, not sure if I'm hungry or its an excuse to get up and procrastinate a little more 😉

So I have done another lap around the sun, another year older, my last year in my 30's!! How on earth did that happen!

Hopefully this next year will be better than the last few. It's amazing the rollercoaster life can become, having children, changing careers, moving states, our ever changing health, it can sometimes be a bit scary. Here's to the next lap around the ☀️🥂
