This exact workflow is what helped me get my foot in the door with brands when I didn’t have the budget to showcase variety in my portfolio.

I didn’t have endless coloured props.
I didn’t have a collection of backgrounds.
I definitely didn’t have multiple lighting setups.

Brands didn’t care how many props I owned.
They cared whether I could deliver clean, on-brand images that helped sell their products.

Changing prop colours and backgrounds allowed me to show range with what I already had.
That’s what fast-tracked my portfolio much earlier than it otherwise would have.

Two edits of the same product image.
One with coloured shadows. One without.

This is a good example of how small editing choices can shift the overall look without making the photo any more or less “correct.” Both versions are clean. Both are usable for e-commerce. They just create different outcomes.

Coloured shadows add a bit of character and tone.
Neutral shadows keep the image minimal and consistent.

No right or wrong.

It comes down to the style you prefer and the look you want the product to have.
