Golden glow, country skies, and perfect timing 🌕✨

On Sunday I only just made it out from Brisbane, racing the fading light to the Scenic Rim — and wow, it was worth every second. The moon was dropping toward the horizon just after sunset, glowing in the most incredible golden tones as it slipped away for the night 🌄

And if you look closely… ✨ Venus is shining brightly up in the top left, quietly stealing a bit of the show 🌟

These are the moments that make the dash out of the city so worth it — peaceful, fleeting, and full of magic.

A little closer to home this time… Autumn magic at the iconic entrance to Blairmore 🍂✨

Just south of Glen Innes, this beautiful driveway lined with towering poplars absolutely comes alive at this time of year. The golden leaves glow in the soft light, creating one of the most photogenic autumn scenes you’ll find in the region 🌿💛

It’s one of those spots that feels straight out of a postcard — peaceful, timeless, and only at its peak for a short window each year. Blink and you might miss it!

Autumn really knows how to put on a show 🍁🔥

Taken last year.

Autumn in Arrowtown 🍂✨

One of my all-time favourite scenes in this stunning little town — the historic Arrowtown Police Hut standing proudly among the golden colours of fall. Built back in 1863, it’s the oldest wooden structure in town.

Originally located on Cardigan Street, the hut was relocated to its current spot in 1991, helping preserve this beautiful piece of history for everyone to enjoy today 🏡✨

It might look peaceful here… but just in front of it sits a busy car park 😅
This is one of those shots where you have to be there early — before the crowds roll in and the cars take over.

Moments like this are why early alarms are always worth it 🙌

My Daughter's Canadian Adventures Continue...

The Aurora Borealis dancing above the pine forests outside Banff 🌲✨

What a night this turned out to be! A powerful solar storm lit up the Canadian skies over the weekend, and my daughter experienced her very first aurora… and not just any aurora — a full-on naked-eye display 💚💜

To see those ribbons of light moving across the sky for the first time is something you never forget. The excitement, the disbelief, the pure magic of it all… and to have it happen in such a stunning location makes it even more special 🌌

Safe to say, she’s now hooked on chasing the lights 😍

These are all taken with a phone hence the quality as it is.

Sometimes less really is more 🌅✨

Normally I’m chasing clouds to bring the colour… but when the sky glows like this, you just stand back and take it all in 😍

The smoke and haze hanging around Brisbane really turned it on, giving the sunrise some serious punch 🔥 From soft pastels to deep, fiery tones lighting up the horizon — it was one of those mornings that didn’t need anything extra

Captured out at Shorncliffe Pier over the weekend… and it definitely delivered!

A SAR ARC in the night sky! ✨

Caitlin had no idea what she’d captured when she sent this through after her night adventure outside Banff… but this isn’t your everyday aurora 😮

What you’re looking at is a Stable Auroral Red (SAR) Arc — a rare, deep red glow sitting high above the Earth (up to ~450km!). Unlike the typical dancing greens and purples, SAR arcs form in a completely different way, driven by intense thermal and kinetic energy rather than the usual particle collisions in our magnetosphere 🌌

It’s one of those subtle but powerful sky events that can easily be missed if you don’t know what you’re looking for… but once you see it, you can’t unsee it 🔥

I’ve been lucky enough to witness one of these myself too — and they’re something truly special to spot in the night sky!

Golden light climbing the sky at Shorncliffe Pier on Saturday morning 🌅✨

That sunrise glow just kept going, stretching higher and higher in a stunning vertical wash of colour—one of those moments where you can’t quite believe how far the light reaches. The mix of smoke and haze really turned it on, painting the sky in rich oranges, pinks and golds that reflected beautifully across the bay… pure magic to witness 💛

But as dreamy as it looked, that same haze had other plans 😅 The comet stayed obscured, faint in the glow and low horizon murk. One of those mornings where you win some and lose some—but honestly, with a sunrise like this, it still felt like a massive win 🙌

I just had to get something for the effort to drive out there! Portrait shot.

My Daughter's Canadian Adventures Continue...

The skies over Canada absolutely came alive overnight as the Aurora Borealis danced across the heavens in a breathtaking display of colour and light ✨💚

For Caitlin, it was a moment she’ll never forget — her very first aurora! And what a way to experience it… bright enough to see with the naked eye, shimmering and shifting right before her eyes. You could only imagine the excitement and awe as those curtains of green lit up the night sky 🌌

It’s one of those magical experiences that photos can barely do justice… something you just have to stand beneath and feel. Safe to say she was completely blown away!

She sent me lots of audio teasing me how awesome it was too!

Blue hour magic at Shorncliffe Pier 💙

The soft glow of dawn stretching across Moreton Bay never disappoints… calm waters, gentle colours, and that peaceful stillness before the world wakes ✨

I had my eye on the comet this morning, sitting low on the horizon just left of the shelter—but the sky was already too bright to catch it this time 🌅☄️ Still, the chase continues! I’m hoping to line it up after sunset later in the month when it shifts into the western sky 🤞

Sometimes it’s not about what you don’t capture… but everything you do 💫 Practice makes perfect or gets me getting in the swing of things again!
