Good evening Storm Lovers, I hope you are well!

I'm on holidays at the moment so on Monday afternoon I headed out the Scenic Rim. I started out at Boonah, one of my favourite places to watch them cross the range. Storms weren't forecast to amount to much more than strong winds and some heavy rain but it had been a while between storms so I was excited to see what Mother Nature had in store for me!

With light steering winds I wasn't expecting epic structure but it was throwing a few visible lightning strikes and it looked interesting enough to get the camera out. It was blowing pretty hard as the whales mouth crossed over me, I nearly lost my Brisbane Lions 2024 premiership cap but I wasn't letting of my tripod which is considerably more expensive! πŸ˜‚

It's an awesome feeling to be immersed in that kind of force and energy, you feel so alive!

Once the rain started to kick in I headed north to get back out in front of it. 15 minutes up the road in a freshly thoroughly rain washed car πŸ˜‚I ended up pulling over north of Peak Crossing. With the wind still gusting and the rain hot on its tail I grabbed a few hand held shots including this one. I'll share some other shots later in the week.

It was a nice start to the holidays and, I got my hat back! πŸ˜‚

Happy New Year nature lovers, I hope you are well!

Time to replace those 2025 calendars as we embark on another lap around the sun, 2026 here we come!

The January image for this years calendar was captured in January last year as a beautifully structured storm lit up over the Brisbane River just south of the city. With stunning sunset colours and lightning exploding from under the hood it was a memorable moment from last year.

Hopefully a few severe cells left in the season yet as the last month or so has been pretty mundane after what was a ferocious start to the season.

Here's to good health and happiness for the year ahead, get back to nature, she's all around you!

Todays shot is of a recent sunset at Woody Point, as a storm made its way north the rain cleared and the sun came out and backlit the huge rain shaft with a beautiful golden glow.

Good evening Storm Lovers, I hope you are well!

Here's another shot from the beautiful storm that tracked up into SE Qld from Northern NSW on Monday the 24th of November.

On radar this was a very lightning active storm however during the 45 minutes or so I was photographing it this was the only bolt I saw and captured. Unfortunately it's on the other side of the main structure so it appears tiny by comparison. I was willing the storm to drop a high based bolt from the upper layers but alas, no bueno.

This cell had incredible structure, a very unique shape compared to anything i've shot before. To the right of this photo a long elongated shelf cloud travels all the way across the bay. This was a very powerful storm that eventually died in Mackay the following morning after travelling almost 1400 km! What a beast!

It also dropped record sized hail of 14cm at Chandler.

I was hoping calendars may have arrived back from print today, fingers crossed for tomorrow🀞

Enjoy the rest of your week whatever you are up to!

Good afternoon Storm Lovers, I hope all is well! It's pretty hot out there today!

While the storms have had a break this week I'm slowly getting through some of the shots i've captured over the last month or so, plenty more to come.

This shot was captured two weeks ago at Woody Point as a nice isolated cell made its way up the coastline from Northern NSW.

Keep an eye on the radar today as Northern NSW could be in for some more severe storms this afternoon, then lower grade storms will move into Brisbane after 8pm, hopefully some nice lightning in them, fingers crossed!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Good afternoon Storm Lovers, I hope you are well!

This image was captured on Monday 24th of November at Woody Point. A supercell formed in northern NSW around midday and made its way up the coast during the afternoon dropping record sized hail (14cm at Chandler) along the way.

Winds of over 130km and fallen trees knocked out the power for over 100k houses and eventually, the next day at 7am, an estimated 1400km later the storm finally came to rest in Mackay!

It also recorded hundreds of thousands of lightning strikes, unfortunately for me I only saw one small strike which i'll share at a later date. I hope you all made it through relatively unscathed.

Calendar Update

The printer said calendars were being shipped off yesterday, Friday the 5th of December, all going well they will arrive before my next day off which is this Wednesday 10th which will allow me to ship them all off in one day.

I will keep you all posted earlier next week :)

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, be wary of severe storms in Northern NSW tomorrow afternoon and a late thunderstorm / light show for Gold Coast / Brisbane around 9pm.

Good afternoon ⚑ Lightning Lovers ⚑I hope everyone is safe and well!

Well if you're a ceraunophile (storm lover) like me it's been an incredible start to the season! This week saw some high end dangerous supercells cause a bit of damage as they marched across SEQ and other areas of the country.

I hope none of you were too badly affected especially by the hail which has been relentless so far this season!

We finally have a reprieve today here in Brisbane so I'm playing catch up on what has been a very busy week between work and chasing storms. I have so many images to edit which i'll share on a later date but here's a couple of nice CA's (clear air strikes) or dog legs as they are also known popping out of a beautiful isolated cell.

I captured these images at Woody Point jetty last Sunday night as the storm marched up from the Gold Coast on its way to Brisbane.

As a photographer I'm always hoping for a supercell storm that is fully isolated, surrounded by blue sky so that you can fully see the storms entire structure from the base all the way to the top. It's rare to get these opportunities as most storm days have a mixture of clouds filling the sky from nearby storms or moisture.

Classic supercells have an overshooting top above the anvil, at night you'll often see the top or as some of us call it the brain lightning up like neurons. This storm unfortunately had a few annoying clouds blocking the full structure until right at the very end as the storm began to die.

One or two annoying clouds can take what could have been incredible shots down to good shots, those moments when all the elements line up are quite rare. As exhilarating as it can be chasing down these beautiful beasts it can be equally frustrating when one tiny thing gets in the way.

It was however really cool to shoot this storm as it was just out to sea so it didn't even rain on us. As it approached from the south it was in full swing with beautiful layered structure and an hour later as it reached us it started to fall apart and die. I'll share a sequence of shots to display the changes later this week.

I'm expecting calendars to arrive late this week, packed next Saturday as there are storms again on Sunday at this stage and mailed early week commencing 8th December.

Thanks again to those who ordered, your support is greatly appreciated!

Good evening Storm Lovers, I hope you are well!

A beautifully structured supercell made its way up from the Border Ranges late this afternoon and marched hard north towards Brisbane. On radar it looked like it hailed pretty much from the border to just south of the city, I heard reports of 5 cm hail. Luckily for me it glanced me at Woody Point where i didn't even get rained on. It died just east of me around 9pm.

I had just driven back up from the coast as it was my twin nieces birthday, I knew storms were on the cards so I threw my camera bag in just in case but this cell only started popping in Northern NSW when I was halfway home.

When I got back to Brisbane I was walking my dog checking the radar, when we got high up on a hill I could see the top of the cell 100km south as clear as day, it was so tall it actually looked like it was a quarter of that distance from me.

I headed straight out to the bay and captured 10 or so keepers over an hour or so, unfortunately the top of the cell was slightly blocked by cloud but it was the multi stacked base that I was after.

More shots to edit but I'm off to bed, an entree of what's to come tomorrow and hopefully Thursday also.

2026 Calendars - Orders close Nov 20th, only 4 more days to order so don't miss out!

Here's one of many shots captured back on the 26th of October that I haven't shared yet. This storm had beautiful structure and was dropping a tonne of lightning strikes as it started crossing Moreton Bay.

Enjoy the rest of the week!
