"We will continue to work with it in the interim until we have a suitable replacement ready to go which will be implemented at its earliest convenience."

That is what Premier Speedway, Warrnambool GM, Michael Parry, has said via Four Wide on Fitzmedia Productions / Fitzmedia LIVE.

In short, they'll run with the current clay through at least January before replacing it hopefully soon after.

It's a tough deal.
They are home to the most-prized race of the entire season in the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic.
And to make matters worse this season, the very next weekend they'll host the Australian Sprintcar Championship.
They last did 'the double' in 2016 with the previous surface.

In that instance, there was a 'Prelude to the Championship' event held on the Wednesday night and the 'Title' was held over 3 nights with split qualifying events.

The elements are against them, creating by far the toughest of conditions for dirt track prep.
The coastal town has high wind periods.
The time of year means the track roasts in the sun during the day.
Teams will travel from all over to hit both upcoming events meaning crazy high car counts.
Formats with a lot of laps.

I can only imagine how fickle it must be to work with.
I've never seen a race track go from to stupidly fast, locked-down to taking rubber almost instantly with practically no in between.

But you have to give them full marks for not only now being transparent on the issue, but for committing to doing what needs to be done - despite the cost.

As all three gentlemen on the stream said, the place needs support from the industry.
I love sharing what's going on - good or bad - and having constructive opinions and conversations with people on our socials.
I hope anyone reading this will agree that we only want the best for the venue and support their efforts.

Interesting Times Ahead..

My honest view on this is that I see a bunch of positives and have a few concerns.

The obvious positives are the parking and dust issues.
The 2 disciplines can easily share parking space, which was a concern particularly for the speedway.
You’d have to assume that the potential $25,000 dust fine to be paid by the speedway to Sydney Dragway wouldn’t occur, either.

In an ideal world, fans will be the biggest beneficiaries of this, with both the dragway and speedway events to hopefully be worked in together.

It’s a no-brainer for Sydney Dragway to take over the lease.

Firstly, they were given brand new car parks in return for the surrender of the land that the speedway has now been built on.

And now, they have the lease to that same site.

But my first concern is that they have no incentive to actually run the venue.
They could easily have keys to the place and just use the parking for their own events.

Judging by their press release, Sydney Dragway don’t intend on operating the venue themselves.
As I’ve said before, there’s a difference between owning the lease and running the venue.
Effectively they’ve been given the site and can add on their own fee to whoever decides they want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to run it.

It’s great to finally have some public answers after hearing nothing from the Government or previous promoters themselves, and very little from anywhere else.

Time will tell if this is a good thing for the sport or not.
I genuinely hope it is.

$100 Million Speedway DISASTER: What Went Wrong?

Eastern Creek Speedway was built in 2021 to replace Sydney's Valvoline Raceway, but the track that was originally only meant to cost $40 million, has blown out to more than double that figure.

With a major list of defects, along with unreasonable contract conditions, the future of the track is uncertain to say the least.
