“Without warning it all went wrong. The car felt fairly settled before it just let go”, Darren recounted.
At the time he was doing about 195mph (313.8km). “After 3 spins she sort of straightened up before going around another 3 times”.
This went down in front of the pits for all to see. Even though Darren was going backwards through the 2 mile mark, his speed had qualified him for a record in his class.
Not bad for a 1993 VP Commodore that originally cost Tom Noack and Darren Weeks only $39.
