“Cosmic Blaze” 2025.
On the first day of winter last year, we were blessed with this absolutely stunning geomagnetic storm display that turned the night into light for hours on end. The Aurora Australis can be regularly seen closer to the south pole, but the intensity of the storm on this night made it visible at much higher latitudes than normal. It was truly extraordinary to witness - visible to the naked eye, I sat on the cliff and watched as it danced across the horizon flickering in brightness and it pulsing in size.
At around 830pm, the storm peaked with this huge burst of light and colour. At the same time, the full moon set behind me and painted the foreground in gentle natural moonlight, all the be enjoyed without a cloud in the sky. A stunning moment that fills me with gratitude as the cosmos aligned for me to capture, it was a night I’ll cherish for a long time.
