Even when the sun hides and the skies turn grey, Lord Howe Island holds a quiet kind of beauty.
At the northern end of Neds, this morning was all mist, drizzle, and soft light — a monochrome palette that made the landscape feel timeless.
No vibrant colours, just nature in its raw, reflective mood.

Cake and eat it.....

Although I really wanted clouds and mist on the top of Mt Gower which didn't happen (great excuse for a repeat climb!) we were however treated to some sensational dramatic clouds above Mt Lidgebird at 'The Saddle' prior to the final ascent to the summit of Mt Gower. This narrow ridgeline that joins the two iconic mountains also makes way to the beautiful and dramatic Erskine Valley. The view from here is breath-taking with the islands interior and rugged coastline and a great motivator for the final few hundred metres of ascent to the rain forest, this spot is at about 500 metres above sea level.
The 'Getup' is the moment on the Mt Gower hike where the trail turns vertical, the ropes come out, and your heart starts racing. Suddenly you're scaling virtually sheer rock faces with only ropes and your grit to guide you, and an expert too ;-) Below? A drop that’ll make your knees wobble. Above? Summit rainforest and the promise of one of the most breath-taking views in the world.
This is way more than a hike/climb, this is a life experience! Do it!

This was the magic that we were blessed with on one of our last mornings on LHI, the sky whispered in soft pinks and golden peach hues as the sun gently rose over Ned’s Beach — and for a brief moment, everything seemed to stand still.
There’s something magical about watching the day begin in a place like this. Peaceful, virtually untouched, and painted by nature herself.
Just one frame from a morning that felt like a dream. Oh, to be back there......

As soon as I set eyes on the mountain I knew I wanted to experience the rainforest up there. A year later, Standing at the summit of Mt Gower, surrounded by the lush, sun-drenched rainforest, it was oh so easy to forget the world below. This ancient ecosystem, perched 875 meters above sea level, is a sanctuary of endemic plants, endemic birds, and sometimes, misty magic.
Even in the harsh bright sunlight every step through this high-altitude rainforest felt like walking through a living museum — untouched, mysterious, and breathtakingly beautiful. It's a reminder of how precious and fragile our natural world is.
Capturing this moment was a privilege. The summit isn’t just a destination — it’s an experience, a day long trek/climb to the top and back to earn that privilege, and all in the company of the man himself, Jack Shick, a 5th generation islander with a generational knowledge of the mountains like no other.
Next time, with a little luck it'll be shrouded in cloud and mist......

Natures masterpiece at Lord Howe Island. As the sun rose it cast golden kisses on the majestic silhouettes of Mt Lidgbird and Mt Gower, painting their rugged faces in hues of amber whilst blending with the early morning sea mist as the vibrant corals revealed their natural beauty.

Far beyond the reach of ordinary time, where the ocean sings in hues of sapphire and emerald, lies a sliver of heaven called Lord Howe Island.
Whether you're wandering barefoot along Ned's Beach, diving into kaleidoscopic reefs, or simply gazing at the stars that seem impossibly close — Lord Howe Island is not just a place. It’s a feeling, an emotive experience. A dream.
A reminder that nature still holds wonders beyond imagination

A slice of paradise, looking out over lagoon beach patiently sitting waiting for the right moment in the warmth of the sun at the end of the day at Lord Howe Island. Simply cannot wait to go back.
