The monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) has two main populations. The eastern group, starting its journey from as far north as Canada, travels to central Mexico, while its western counterpart heads to the coast of California. These butterflies navigate vast distances by using the sun’s positioning and the Earth’s magnetic pull (Mouritsen & Frost, 2002). This migration from Canada typically starts in late August to September, prompted by decreasing day length and cooler temperatures.

Had a quick encounter with an Eagle this afternoon while I was out in boat. I always carry my camera and its always ready to go just in case. This afternoon in Random Sound I spotted an Eagle high in the trees so I stopped to watch for a bit. Moments after stopping the Eagle took flight and was coming right at the boat, for a minute I thought I pi**ed it off. I started taking shots and the came within 40 feet of the boat and dropped to the water, it cam up with a cod in its talons. It happed so qu**ky I wasn't even sure I captured any of the action. Here are the shots I managed to get. If you zoom in on the talons you can see the small cod.
