Last month we experienced another strong aurora that was visible from the Barossa Valley and further. With one child in bed and the other between feeds, I picked up my camera and head out to one of my favourite astro photography locations. I had to experiment with some light casting from my phone flashlight and thankfully it was enough to light up the house ruins. I think these are my new favourite singing lady photos I've taken to date 😍

Enjoy!

Today is AND so I'm taking the opportunity to share an oldie but a goodie. I wasn't fortunate enough to spot any cheetahs on my trip to South Africa, so here is a young cheetah cub I captured in Tanzania.

The fastest land animal is just a big cat at heart. Make sure to YouTube how they call for eachother - I promise you won't be disappointed 🥹

It is estimated that there are only around 6,500 left in the wild, and the Asianic subspecies is on the brink of Extinction with some reports suggesting there are as few as 12-17 animals left.

Use this Wildlife Conservation Day to do your part in spreading awareness and support for this beautiful animal

A late post for

These furry, burrowing marsupials are unique to Australia and are made up of 3 species: The Bare-nosed, Southern Hairy-nosed and the Northern Hairy-nosed.

Growing up to approximately 1 metre in length and weighing 20-35kg the wombat is capable of reaching speeds of 40km/hr!

This Bare-nosed wombat was busy going about his day in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park in Tasmania. Don't you just want to give him a cuddle?!

"The Last of His Kind"

is a good time to reflect on the dangers these animals face every day. Sadly, these animals are being hunted to extinction - all for their horns which are made of keratin, the same as our fingernails. The worst part? Rhinos die needlessly for this purpose as their horns grow back.

Many places in Africa have teams that protect the animals in their parks by removing the horns before they are long enough to tempt poachers, and so, often it is rare to spot them with a full horn.

If Rhino numbers keep dropping we will see this beautiful animal go extinct in the not too distant future. In fact, in 2018 the last male Northern White Rhino died, rendering the subspecies functionally extinct with only 2 females currently left alive.

Did you know: White Rhinos are so named, not for the colour of their skin, but due to a misunderstanding of the Afrikaans word for wide, 'wyd,' which referred to its wide, square shaped lips.

I've been a bit behind the last 2 weeks having been travelling in NSW with my family and trying to get on top of everything at home. But I'm finally here and I have some more exciting news to share!

I received an email while we were away notifying me that my photo "Stormy Wethers" was a winner in the Elders calendar competition 😍 my photo will be featured for the month of May in their 2026 calendar.

Make sure you pick one up from your local Elders store! 😁 or, if Astronomy is more your thing, you can still pick up a Barossa Council calendar from the Barossa Information Centre featuring my photo of Comet C/2024 G3 Atlas for the month of June.

Happy International Painted Dog Day!

Painted dogs, also known as African Wild Dogs, are the second largest canid in the world behind wolves.

As highly social animals, a Painted Dog's pack is usually made up of up to 20 members led by the alpha pair. Generally, it is only the alpha pair that will mate and they will give up their own food to ensure that pups are well fed. Like-wise, if a member of the pack is sick or injured and unable to hunt, the rest of the pack members will regurgitate food for them to support their recovery.

Sadly, while they are known to be Africa's most efficient predator, their numbers are estimated to be less than 7,000 due to habitat loss and human conflict.

You can learn more about these amazing animals and what you can do to help make a difference by visiting the Painted Dog Conservation Inc website https://www.pdcinc.org.au/

What do I love about photography?

I love being able to capture the moments that some people don't have the opportunity to see, like those fleeting wildlife moments.

I love being able to capture the small details many would otherwise miss.

And I love being able to immortalise moments that happen in a split second, like capturing the raw energy of mother nature during a lightning storm.

The wonderful thing about photography is that every image is a unique representation of how someone sees the world, yet you could show that same image to a group of people and every single one of them will have their own feelings and reflections on the image and what it means to them.

I love how personal it is in every aspect ❤️

I had some fun stalking this stunning guy while waiting for our shuttle bus to arrive at Cradle Mountain, Tasmania. While he looks similar to a Crow or a Raven, this is a Black Carrowong and is endemic to Tasmania and the surrounding islands.
