Hi, my name is Melanie Napier, but please call me Mel. I'm a friendly country girl at heart, having grown up on a cattle station in Millaroo, west of Ayr. My love of photography began as a child, snapping wildlife and birds - even if they often turned out as tiny specks once the film was developed (sorry mum!). That passion never left me. These days, I balance life as a full-time IT professional w

ith my creative heartwork: photography. From capturing treasured family memories to the beauty of landscapes and the professionalism of commercial shoots, photography is what keeps me grounded. I hold a Bachelor of Business Administration and am lucky to share life with my wonderful husband, two grown boys, their partners and a beautiful granddaughter. This weekend just gone marked my 5th year capturing the Sacramental Masses for the Burdekin Parish, and it's something I truly love being a part of. ❤️

Here are a couple of images of the beautiful Home Hill Church in all its glory, along with a few of me with fellow photographer Marni, Bishop Tim and Father Manoj (big thanks to Marni). I'm not particularly fond of being in front of the camera, but I also respect the wishes of parents who choose not to have their children's images shared on social media. So, some rare images of the photographer today. 😃📷

Double exposure is a technique I’ve always admired, and this image felt like the perfect chance to try it properly. After this one came together beautifully, I experimented with a few other photo combinations from different sessions — including a few nature-inspired blends — but none had quite the same magic. From the sepia-toned kiss tucked behind Bradley’s hat to Sarah’s stunning red dress, everything just worked. Thank you to Sarah and Bradley for letting me share this image with you all. Proof that sometimes two favourite frames really are better than one — and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more opportunities to create the perfect blend in future sessions.

Cue the music, bring on the sparkle, and roll the slightly wobbly footage! 🎥🌟

Now in my third year as the official photographer for this event — one I truly love being part of — I wanted to try something a little different and have finally had the chance to sit down and bring it all together. I will be the first to admit my video editing (and video) skills are still a work in progress — a big work in progress! — but I hope you enjoy this little recap of the Burdekin Singers Debutante Ball journey for 2026. While this video doesn’t capture the official proceedings of the night, I hope it helps honour the countless hours contributed by the volunteers, choreographers, parents, and of course, the Debs and their partners. ❤️

I can hardly wait to see what magical theme they choose in 2027, and hopefully by then my video and editing skills will have caught up with my enthusiasm! 😁Enjoy the memories and have a wonderful weekend! Mel xo

Sometimes things have a funny way of working out.

I always like to follow up with anyone who enquires, wishing them all the best and hoping they've found someone to capture their special memories. To me, it's always been more important that those memories are captured than who captures them.

Tia had originally chosen another photographer, but when plans unexpectedly changed on Saturday morning, she reached out to see if I was still available. Thankfully, I was.

Every time I pick up my camera, I'm reminded how lucky I am to preserve memories for others - perhaps making up, just a little, for the moments I was too busy to capture as my own family was growing.

Last weekend was all about love and family, with a beautiful engagement session and a wonderful family session to capture. This weekend has been a little slower, spent camping with chilly mornings, warm campfires, and hubby. 💕 Of course the camera is never far away, so I thought I'd share a few nature shots for you to enjoy. Some afternoons are simply good for the soul, and this beautiful family session among the trees was one of them. The laughter, the cuddles, and the love that shines so naturally between this family are what make these memories so special. 💕

One of the things I love most about living in a country town is the way stories, families and friendships weave together over generations. I’ve known Sarah’s grandparents since I was a kid, and my dad harvested their cane back in the day in Millaroo, so this session felt extra special from the very beginning. When Sarah’s mum reached out and asked if I would capture Sarah and Bradley's engagement photos, I was genuinely honoured — and so excited.

We spent the most beautiful golden afternoon wandering, chatting and soaking up that soft end-of-day light. There was such an easy warmth between these two — the kind of love that doesn’t need to be posed or prompted too much because it’s already there in the little looks, the laughter and the quiet moments in between.

Sarah and Bradley, thank you for trusting me with such a beautiful chapter in your lives. It was a privilege to capture this special time for you, and I hope these images always take you back to the excitement, joy and tenderness of this time. Wishing you both a lifetime of love, laughter, adventure and happiness as you step into everything that’s ahead. I’m so excited to share a few of your favourites from our afternoon together.
