After more than a decade of photographing on the island, Stradbroke Island Photography is officially on pause.
When we moved to the island the same year we got married there, there were barely any weddings and not much infrastructure to support them. Hundreds of weddings later, and a thriving local wedding industry is now part of Straddie’s fabric.
It’s been a ride. We met the most incredible people, many who became good friends.
We built a business from scratch, published a book, survived COVID and ran a media business that supported both of us for over 13 years.
But like a wedding dress that doesn’t quite fit anymore, it is time for us to move on.
We still have our little shack in Amity and a couple of weddings and film projects to finish. So we will return at intervals throughout the remainder of 2025, and who knows what will happe in the future.
This is not goodbye - just see you later.
Currently we are in WA. Stu’s back in media as a photojournalist and I’ve taken the scenic route into academia — currently researching a Dutch shipwreck for my master’s thesis and making plans for new work that’s a better fit for the life we’re living now.
Thank you for everything Straddie.
